A RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING SIMPSON COUNTY ACADEMY'S LILLY OVERBY AS THREE-TIME CROSS-COUNTRY STATE CHAMPION AND 2024-2025 GATORADE MISSISSIPPI GIRLS CROSS-COUNTRY PLAYER OF THE YEAR.

WHEREAS, we join the students of Simpson Academy and the citizens of Simpson County in celebrating the cross-country accomplishments of Lilly Overby, a Senior Cross-Country runner for the Simpson County Academy Cougars; and

WHEREAS, Lilly Overby has won the MAIS 4A Division I State Cross-Country Title for the past three years; and

WHEREAS, running isn't just a sport for Lilly Overby, it's a passion, a purpose, and a way of life. The Simpson Academy senior has poured her heart into the sport, earning recognition that places her among the best in the nation; and

WHEREAS, Gatorade recently announced that Lilly Overby is the 2024-2025 Gatorade Mississippi Girls Cross-Country Player of the Year, a first for Simpson County Academy. What an incredible accomplishment for this talented young lady and for the community and state; and

WHEREAS, Lilly has already made her mark as a three-time Cross-Country State Champion, and now she carries the distinction of being the top female runner in Mississippi. Her dedication, discipline, and love for the sport have set her apart; and

WHEREAS, "I owe so much to my coach, Dr. Angel Overstreet. She set the bar high and believed in me. Our team is truly like a family. We support and encourage one another every step of the way," Lilly shared; and

WHEREAS, Lilly is the daughter of Paul and Sarah Overby of Magee, Mississippi, and she continues to make her hometown proud; and

WHEREAS, it is with great pride that we recognize this student athlete who has brought honor to her school, her hometown community and to the State of Mississippi:

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby commend and congratulate Simpson County Academy's Lilly Overby as three-time Cross-Country State Champion and 2024-2025 Gatorade Mississippi Girls Cross-Country Player of the Year, and extend to Lilly and her family our best wishes for future athletic and academic success.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That this resolution be presented to Lilly Overby, forwarded to Simpson Academy Cross-Country Coach Dr. Angel Overstreet and Headmaster John Shows, and be made available to the Capitol Press Corps.
