Senate Resolution 126

A RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING THE LAKE CORMORANT HIGH SCHOOL LADY GATORS VOLLEYBALL TEAM AND HEAD COACH CHRISTINA MORGAN FOR THEIR THIRD CONSECUTIVE CLASS 6A STATE CHAMPIONSHIP.

     WHEREAS, Lake Cormorant High School has been dominating the girls volleyball sport in Mississippi.  On October 17, 2024, the Lady Gators swept Hancock 25-21, 25-19 and 25-13 to clinch the match and win their third consecutive MHSAA Class 6A State Volleyball Championship, their third championship since moving to Class 6A; and

     WHEREAS, "I've been impressed almost from the first practice with the determination and the focus this team has showed," Lake Cormorant coach Christina Morgan said. "They just refused to lose in big matches like this one"; and

     WHEREAS, as we celebrate this historical 3rd championship with the team, we also note all of the other historical milestones accomplished this season:

     ●  LCHS Volleyball is one of the two teams in MS public school history to win 3 consecutive state championships;

     ●  LCHS Volleyball set the record for most wins in a season with 39 wins, and tied the least amount of losses in a season at 5;

     ●  LCHS Volleyball has not lost a single set to a 6A opponent in the past two seasons;

     ●  Head coach, Christina Morgan, achieved her 400th career win against Collierville on September 10;

     ●  LCHS Volleyball did not lose to a single DeSoto County team, and won the DeSoto County Tournament championship;

     ●  Junior OH, Sofia Gonzalez, was crowned Miss Volleyball for 6A for the second consecutive year.  She was also named the DeSoto County MVP.  She was nominated for the Top Memphis-Area Volleyball player before the season, named to the AVCA Phenom Watchlist, and many other season accolades.  She also set the record for All-Time Career Kills in a season for LCHS Volleyball history (and counting).  She was also named this year's game MVP for the 6A state championship;

     ●  Senior Setter, Dallas White, set the All-Time Career Assists record for LCHS Volleyball history.  She was named to AVCA All-American Watchlist, DeSoto County First Team Selection, and many other accolades.  She has committed to Northwest Community College to continue her volleyball career;

     ●  Senior Libero, Jania Rose, set the All-Time Dig record for LCHS Volleyball history.  She was selected for the North MS All Star Team where she earned the title of North MVP.  She was named to the AVCA All-American Watchlist, DeSoto County First Team Selection, and many other accolades.  She has committed to Northwest Community College to continue her volleyball career;

     ●  Senior MB, Ariana Woods, has had a phenomenal senior season.  She was selected for the North MS All-Star team, AVCA All-American Watchlist, as well as a DeSoto County Honorable Mention selection.  She has committed to Northwest Community College to continue her volleyball career;

     ●  Senior DS, Laynna Wilson, was named the BSN Scholar Athlete for the second consecutive year;

     WHEREAS, it is with great pride that we extend "Swamp Congratulations" to the players and coaches on this momentous occasion:

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby commend and congratulate the Lake Cormorant High School Lady Gators Volleyball Team and Head Coach Christina Morgan for their third consecutive class 6A State Championship, and extend to the team, coaches, parents, and sponsors our best wishes for continued success.

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That this resolution be presented to Head Coach Christina Morgan for the team, forwarded to the LCHS Principal and the DeSoto County Board of Education and be made available to the Capitol Press Corps.
