A RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING THE OLE MISS CHEER TEAM AND HEAD CHEER COACH SKYLAR CASEY FOR WINNING THEIR FIRST NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP IN THE DIVISION 1A TRADITIONAL ALL GIRL CATEGORY AT THE UNIVERSAL CHEERLEADERS ASSOCIATION COLLEGE NATIONAL COMPETITION.
WHEREAS, for the first time in program history, the Ole Miss Cheer Team won a National Championship in the Division 1A Traditional All Girl category at the Universal Cheerleaders Association College Nationals; and
WHEREAS, Ole Miss earned a score of 88.5 in the semifinals on March 8, 2025, to advance to the finals. The Rebels went on to win the National Title with a 91.4 in the finals; and
WHEREAS, the title marks the Rebels' fourth UCA National Championship overall in the last eight years. Ole Miss finished first in 2018 and 2022 in the Division 1A All Girl Game Day category, as well as bringing home top honors in 2023 in the D1A Spirit Program Game Day competition; and
WHEREAS, "I'm extremely proud of this team and these athletes," Head Cheer Coach Skylar Casey said. "They worked so hard for this accomplishment and they completely deserve it. The culture and standard that this team set is extraordinary. They are phenomenal people in and out of cheerleading. It's more than winning, it's a sisterhood. I'm excited for them to celebrate this moment together"; and
WHEREAS, in addition to claiming the All Girl crown, the Rebels finished fourth in the Division 1A Spirit Program Game Day category, and the coed squad finished ninth nationally in the Traditional Cheer section; and
WHEREAS, in the Division 1A Spirit Program Game Day category, both Cheer and Rebelettes competed together on stage to create one action-packed performance. The teams were evaluated on their ability to lead the crowd, proper game day skill incorporations, execution of skills, motion technique and overall routine; and
WHEREAS, Coach Skylar Casey has been part of the last three national titles for the Rebels and is now a six-time UCA National Champion, earning three titles at Northwest Mississippi prior to coming to Ole Miss; and
WHEREAS, the 2024-2025 Ole Miss Cheer Team Roster is: Emma Allen, Sydney Avery, Dana Benson, Kaityln Bess, Delaney Bland, Callie Carter, Ryan Cooper, Abby DeWolf, Bella Dunnam, Miyah Fierro-Matsumura, Sydney Gordin, Kayleigh Hackett, Savannah Hardin, Kennedi Harris, Anna Isabelle Hirsch, Brianna Horne, Payton Huguley, Tinley Jones, Madeline Kepner, Mary-Grace Kirkpatrick, Mara Liston, Hailey March, Kinsey Merrick, Olivia Robbins, Peyton Rountree, Malina Sayaovong, Mia Scott, Krislyn Scroggins, Ali Sharritts, Claudia Shelton, Amilee Spillers, Isabella Valdes, Kirsten Vanden Bos, Caroline Walker, Sara Watts and Virginia Williams; and Head Cheer Coach Skylar Casey; and
WHEREAS, it is with great pride that we recognize these student-athletes who have represented their university on a national stage and brought honor to their university, their community and to the State of Mississippi:
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby commend and congratulate the Ole Miss Cheer Team and Head Cheer Coach Skylar Casey for winning their first National Championship in the Division 1A Traditional All Girl category at the Universal Cheerleaders Association College National competition, and extend to the team, coaches, sponsors and university administration our best wishes for future championships.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That this resolution be presented to Coach Skylar Casey for the team, forwarded to the University of Mississippi Chancellor and Athletic Director and the Board of Trustees of State Institutions of Higher Learning, and made available to the Capitol Press Corps.
