Senate Resolution 30

A RESOLUTION EXTENDING THE CONDOLENCES OF THE MISSISSIPPI SENATE TO THE SURVIVING FAMILY OF REPRESENTATIVE CHARLES LEMUEL YOUNG, JR.

WHEREAS, it is with sadness that we note the passing of Mississippi Representative Charles L. Young, Jr., who passed away on December 19, 2024, at 62; and

WHEREAS, Charles Lemuel Young, Jr., was born July 9, 1962, to the late Charles L. Young, Sr., and Doretha Connor Young.  He was born and raised in Meridian, Mississippi, and attended Tougaloo College; and

WHEREAS, Representative Young was a Democrat who was first elected to represent the 82nd District in 2012.  His district encompassed a portion of Lauderdale County, including the City of Meridian; and

WHEREAS, elected to four terms in the House of Representatives, Young followed in the political footsteps of his father, Charles Young, Sr., who served in the House from 1980 until his death in 2009, representing the same district his son would go on to serve; and

WHEREAS, through his role as a lawmaker, Representative Young worked avidly to further resources for Lauderdale County.  He was also a stout advocate for human rights and proudly supported Mississippi's move to a modern, relevant state flag; and

WHEREAS, Young was Vice-Chairman of the House Corrections Committee and served on the House Medicaid, Appropriations A, Ethics and Public Health and Human Services committees.  Governor Tate Reeves offered his condolences to the Young family and praised Young's dedicated service; and

WHEREAS, aside from legislative work, Young was an active businessman in the field of cosmetic sales, in a Meridian firm founded by his grandfather, E.F. Young; and

WHEREAS, Representative Young was not only a treasured member of our Legislature, he also brought valuable life experience to our work here.  His work, along with his perspective and insight, will long be remembered by all of us.  His quick wit, heart of gold and infectious smile was cherished by all.  He has gone from us far too soon, and we will miss him.  May the work that we do in the years to come honor his memory:

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby extend the condolences of the Mississippi Senate to the surviving family of Representative Charles Lemuel Young, Jr.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That this resolution be presented to the surviving family of Representative Charles Lemuel Young, Jr., and made available to the Capitol Press Corps.
