A RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING THE TUPELO HIGH SCHOOL GOLDEN WAVE FOOTBALL TEAM AND HEAD COACH TY HARDIN FOR WINNING ITS FIRST MISSISSIPPI HIGH SCHOOL ACTIVITIES ASSOCIATION 7A STATE CHAMPIONSHIP SINCE 1992.
WHEREAS, the Tupelo High School Golden Wave Football Team led by Head Coach Ty Hardin staved off Brandon's shot at a comeback and won the MHSAA Class 7A state title. Tupelo beat Brandon, 28-16, on December 5, 2024, at Southern Mississippi's M.M. Roberts Stadium to win its first state title since 1992; and
WHEREAS, Tupelo, currently ranked No. 204 in the High School Football America 300 national rankings, powered by NFL Play Football, finished a perfect 14-0; and
WHEREAS, MHSAA Class 7A Mr. Football running back, Jaeden Hill, made his presence felt from the outset in his first state title game. The 2026 Mississippi State commit finished with 224 rushing yards on 34 carries and had 37 receiving yards with three of the four touchdowns for Tupelo; and
WHEREAS, Tupelo never trailed during the entire game and iced the game following Hill's 32-yard rushing touchdown with 55 seconds left; and
WHEREAS, the Tupelo High School 2024-2025 Varsity Football Championship Roster: Jaeden Hill, Maison Dunn, Tyreke Darden, Braylon Matthews, Iverson McCoy, Noah Gillon, Jayden Evans, Chris Ivy, Kylen Simmons, Jareylan McCoy, Kenneth Jenkins, Malachi Gilleylen, Kevin Perkins, Ashton Blanchard, Q. WHEREAS, it is with great pride that we recognize this group of student athletes who have brought honor to their school, their community and to the State of Mississippi:
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby commend and congratulate the Tupelo High School Golden Wave Football Team and Head Coach Ty Hardin for winning its first Mississippi High School Activities Association 7A State Championship since 1992 and extend the best wishes of the Legislature to the team, coaches, parents and sponsors for future success.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That this resolution be presented to Coach Ty Hardin for the team and Tupelo Principal, Melissa Thomas, forwarded to the Tupelo Municipal School Board of Trustees and be made available to the Capitol Press Corps.
