Senate Bill 3288

AN ACT TO RESTORE THE RIGHT OF SUFFRAGE TO JAMES KIMBER OF BOLIVAR COUNTY, MISSISSIPPI; AND FOR RELATED PURPOSES.

     BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI:

     SECTION 1.  The right of suffrage is hereby fully and completely restored to James Kimber of Bolivar County, Mississippi, who was convicted of the crime of the sale of a controlled substance on September 30, 1999 in Bolivar County, Mississippi, for which he was sentenced to serve five (5) years in the custody of the Mississippi Department of Corrections with four (4) years suspended and four (4) years probation.  On May 10, 2000, Kimber was discharged from the custody of the Mississippi Department of Corrections and remanded to the supervision of the Mississippi Probation and Parole Board to complete the suspended portion of his sentence.

     On March 21, 2001, Kimber's probation was revoked, and he was sentenced to serve one (1) year of his original, suspended sentence.  On November 28, 2001, Kimber was convicted of the possession of a controlled substance in Bolivar County, Mississippi, for which he was sentenced to serve ten (10) years in the custody of the Mississippi Department of Corrections with four (4) years suspended and four (4) years post release supervision.

     Kimber was released from the physical custody of the Department of Corrections on post-release supervision on October 29, 2005, and discharged from the custody of the Mississippi Department of Corrections on July 14, 2006.  He completed all terms and conditions of his sentence.  The Legislature is informed that he has since conducted himself as a law-abiding and honorable citizen in a good and lawful manner.

     SECTION 2.  This act shall take effect and be in force from and after July 1, 2025.
