AN ACT TO RESTORE THE RIGHT OF SUFFRAGE TO SHANIKQUA RENA DOUGLAS OF CLAY COUNTY, MISSISSIPPI; AND FOR RELATED PURPOSES.
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI:
SECTION 1. The right of suffrage is hereby fully and completely restored to Shanikqua Rena Douglas of Clay County, Mississippi, who was disqualified as an elector as a result of her conviction for the crime of obtaining money or goods under false pretenses in 2015 in Clay County, Mississippi. On April 10, 2018, she was convicted of the crime of mayhem and sentenced to three (3) years in the custody of the Mississippi Department of Corrections with three (3) years suspended and placed on probation.
On April 15, 2021, a notice of cause closure was filed by the Mississippi Department of Corrections in the Clay County Circuit Court. She has represented successfully completing all terms and conditions of her sentence. The Legislature is informed that she has since conducted herself as a law-abiding and honorable citizen in a good and lawful manner.
SECTION 2. This act shall take effect and be in force from and after July 1, 2025.
