House Resolution 8

A RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING THE RIPLEY HIGH SCHOOL BOYS GOLF TEAM UPON THEIR SUPERIOR SEASON AND UPON WINNING THE MISSISSIPPI HIGH SCHOOL ACTIVITIES ASSOCIATION (MHSAA) CLASS 4A 2024 STATE GOLF CHAMPIONSHIP.

     WHEREAS, the Ripley High School Boys Golf Team is being honored and celebrated upon capturing the Mississippi High School Activities Association (MHSAA) Class 4A 2024 State Golf Championship and notably, this victory is the third consecutive win for the Tigers as they topped off the season with an impressive team score of 612 during the championship; and

     WHEREAS, these talented young men, who served as the 2024 Grand Marshal, are the three-time defending 4A state champions, and after finishing as runner up in 2020 and 2021, they made history by being the first ever male sport to bring home a state title for Ripley High School; and

     WHEREAS, once again, the Ripley High School Boys Golf Team  proved their dominance this year by beating the runner up by an unprecedent 55 strokes; and

     WHEREAS, the Ripley High School Boys Golf Team is led by four seniors, Cole Adams, Craig Bullock, Jack Reid and the reigning three-time individual state champion, Jake Moffitt; and

     WHEREAS, other dynamic members of this year's team include sophomores, Bo Barefield and Parker McAllister and freshman, Cannon Nabors; and

     WHEREAS, notably, senior Jake Moffitt, a top two player, who took home medalist honors for the third consecutive year after winning a playoff hole and was -1 for the tournament; and

     WHEREAS, senior Craig Bullock, who finished third overall, was also a top two player with a +3 for the tournament and finished with a two-day score of 147, which was not far behind Moffitt's score of 143; and

     WHEREAS, in addition to the top two players, other Tigers brought additional honors to the team such as Jack Reid who was close behind Moffit and Bullock with a sixth-place finish, and Cole Adams finished ninth, Bo Barefield 17th and Parker McAlister 24th, which is a testament of the overall skills of this focus-driven and victorious team; and

     WHEREAS, the Tigers have been superbly coached and inspired by Head Coach Nik Wilcher and Assistant Coach Bart Adams who have broadened the players' knowledge of the game of golf and refined their skills in execution; and

     WHEREAS, the Ripley High School Boys Golf Team have developed a winning and cooperative spirit and a high degree of sportsmanship, and their activities and attitude reflect great credit upon the individual players, their coach, parents and brings overall honor and pride to Ripley High School; and

     WHEREAS, it is the policy of the House of Representatives, to recognize and commend excellence, especially when evidenced by the youth of our state, in particular, the Tigers, who are its future:

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby commend and congratulate the Ripley High School Boys Golf Team, and their coach for their extraordinary season and upon winning the MHSAA Class 4A 2024 State Golf Championship as well as for displaying tireless devotion to their athletic endeavors, which has resulted in a third consecutive state championship for the Tigers.

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to Ripley High School, Coach Nik Wilcher and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
