A RESOLUTION RECOGNIZING AND COMMENDING MS. BROOKE BUMGARNER FOR PLACING AS SECOND RUNNER-UP IN THE MISS AMERICA'S TEEN COMPETITION.
WHEREAS, Mississippi's own Ms. Brooke Bumgarner finished second runner-up during Miss America's Teen competition in Orlando, Florida, a truly outstanding accomplishment; and
WHEREAS, Ms. Bumgarner, a Madison native, won Miss Mississippi's Teen in April to earn a spot alongside 50 delegates at the Walt Disney Theater at the Dr. Phillips Center for the Performing Arts; and
WHEREAS, after a week's worth of interviews and preliminary rounds, winning the evening gown phase of the competition, Ms. Bumgarner was named a finalist for the crown; and
WHEREAS, Ms. Bumgarner sang "Somewhere Over the Rainbow" during the talent phase of the competition, and through the second runner-up finish, she earned a $13,000 scholarship to go along with more than $5,000 in scholarship assistance won at the Miss Mississippi's Teen competition; and
WHEREAS, a recent graduate of Madison Central, Ms. Bumgarner is the daughter of Brad and Kami Bumgarner, and she was the student body president of her high school, where she also was a member of the National Honor Society, National Beta Club, Mystix Dance Team, and named homecoming queen; and
WHEREAS, it is the policy of the House of Representatives to recognize and honor extraordinary Mississippians such as Ms. Bumgarner, a young woman who exudes poise and class, and who serves as an asset and wonderful role model to everyone throughout the great Magnolia State, which brings honor to the Madison community and the State of Mississippi:
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby recognize and commend Ms. Brooke Bumgarner for placing as second runner-up in the Miss America's Teen Competition, and express best wishes for continued success in all her future endeavors.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to Ms. Brooke Bumgarner, and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
