Senate Resolution 109

A RESOLUTION CELEBRATING THE LIFE AND LEGACY OF FORMER LAFAYETTE COUNTY CHANCERY CLERK SHERRY WALL AND COMMENDING HER SERVICE TO HER COMMUNITY AND STATE.

WHEREAS, the Lafayette County community is mourning the loss of Sherry Wall, beloved former chancery clerk, who passed away on February 6, 2024.  Ms. Wall was known for her compassion, resolve and dedication to the community she served as the chancery clerk for almost 20 years before retiring in December 2023; and

WHEREAS, a Lafayette County native, Sherry's commitment to county service was legendary.  With a deep understanding of the county's inner workings, Sherry maintained the smooth operation of the position of chancery clerk for years, making sure county matters were handled effectively and residents were well supported; and

WHEREAS, "She was the ultimate public servant," said Circuit Clerk Jeff Busby.  "She cared for the people of Lafayette County, and she worked hard for them."  Chancery Clerk Mike Roberts, who stepped into Sherry's shoes in January said:  "Her desire was really to be behind the scenes.  Just when you thought Sherry wasn't involved in something, you'd find out later that she moved a lot of pieces to help folks.  You'd see her in the office every day, but what you didn't see was that a lot of the time, what she did for people was behind the scenes on her own time"; and

WHEREAS, though she spent much of her time taking care of the county's people, Sherry also significantly contributed to the county's development.  Throughout her work as chancery clerk and as Clerk of the Lafayette County Board of Supervisors, she participated in many projects that benefited the county, from the historic courthouse's restoration to the building of new facilities on FD Buddy East Parkway; and

WHEREAS, Sherry's impact transcends professional duties.  For many years, she served as a patient, all-embracing mentor to countless public leaders, guiding them through the intricacies of the county system.  Serving as the Clerk for the Lafayette County Board of Supervisors, she helped the county achieve what they were setting out to achieve.  "You could always call her, and you could always count on her in any situation.  Sherry's legacy is bigger than Lafayette County," said Roberts; and

WHEREAS she leaves behind a community that is richer for her selflessness, commitment and service.  Sherry Wall's life honored both Lafayette County and this great state that she loved and served:

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby celebrate the life and legacy of former Lafayette County Chancery Clerk Sherry Wall and commend her service to her community and State.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That this resolution be presented to the surviving family of former Lafayette County Chancery Clerk Sherry Wall, forwarded to the Lafayette County Board of Supervisors and be made available to the Capitol Press Corps.
