A RESOLUTION CELEBRATING THE 75TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE MISSISSIPPI ECONOMIC COUNCIL (MEC).

     WHEREAS, the Mississippi Economic Council (MEC) has been the voice of Mississippi business since 1949.  MEC deals with broad issues that relate to businesses through advocacy, research, resources and leadership; and

     WHEREAS, the MEC not only promotes the well-being and stability of our state's economy, but it also gives back to our communities through partnering with great charities and other nonprofit organizations to help make Mississippi the safest place to live, work and raise a family.  The MEC speaks for businesses, large and small, and its members are the job creators in our state; and

     WHEREAS, for 75 years, the MEC has played an instrumental role in major pieces of legislation on trade, infrastructure, education, health care, energy, and a host of other issues integral to generating economic growth, supporting the business community and creating jobs in Mississippi; and

     WHEREAS, MEC has championed economic development and workforce training initiatives that are essential for strengthening our state's economy putting Mississippi in the place of greatest opportunity; and

     WHEREAS, for the next 75 years, and well beyond, the MEC will work to strengthen the prosperity and competitiveness of the State of Mississippi and will represent the interests of businesses in Mississippi of every size, sector and region before the Legislature, the Executive Branch and the Court of Public Opinion:

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby celebrate the 75th Anniversary of the Mississippi Economic Council (MEC) and congratulate this professional business development organization on 75 years of securing Mississippi's future.

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That this resolution be presented to Scott Waller, CEO of the Mississippi Economic Council, forwarded to the President of the MEC and its Board of Directors and the State Workforce Investment Board, and made available to the Capitol Press Corps.
