Senate Resolution 87

A RESOLUTION EXPRESSING THE BEST WISHES OF THE MISSISSIPPI SENATE TO MOTHER LORENE GEE COCKROFT OF CARTHAGE, MISSISSIPPI, ON THE OCCASION OF HER 100TH BIRTHDAY CELEBRATION.

     WHEREAS, Mother Lorene Gee Cockroft was born on May 6, 1924, the fourth child of the late Vernon and Helen Micou Gee.  She held a special place in the family of seven sisters and five brothers as the second daughter of the clan; and

     WHEREAS, Mother Lorene has been blessed with a good, long life.  She is a devoted and loving wife of 45 years to David.  She is a loving mother to her sons, Ted, Clarence and Winifred, and a dear grandmother to ten grandchildren and multiple great and great-great-grandchildren.  Mother Lorene loves each family member and is gracious to her nephews, nieces and cousins; and

     WHEREAS, Mother Lorene is a Christian, Godly woman.  As a child, Mother Lorene joined Center Hill Baptist Church in Conway, Mississippi.  In her adult years, she joined First Baptist M.B. Church in Carthage, Mississippi, and later was a founding member of Greater Mount Calvary M.B. Church.  Mother Lorene served in various capacities within the church which include, but are not limited to, Sunday School Teacher, Usher Board member, member of the Mission and Mother Boards, member of the choir, and member of the Kitchen Committee; and

     WHEREAS, Mother Lorene's whole life depicts character, wisdom, morals, independence and spiritual gifts.  She has used these talents in various ways throughout the course of her life's journey.  Mother Lorene has also used her cooking skills professionally, serving as Cafeteria Manager of Conway Vocational School.  Her attendance in workshops, seminars and conferences were vital to her job performance.  In addition to her service at Conway Vocational School, Mother Lorene was employed with the Carthage Corporation as an inspector for 20 years until her retirement in 1985; and

     WHEREAS, she was born when Calvin Coolidge was President of the United States and Henry L. Whitfield was Governor of the State of Mississippi.  Mother Lorene's life has spanned the administration of 17 United States Presidents from Calvin Coolidge to Joe Biden and 25 Mississippi Governors from Henry L. Whitfield to Tate Reeves; and

     WHEREAS, we join the family and friends of this outstanding Christian citizen of Mississippi in her 100th Birthday Celebration held on May 4, 2024:

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby express the best wishes of the Mississippi Senate to Mother Lorene Gee Cockroft of Carthage, Mississippi, on the occasion of her 100th Birthday Celebration, and extend to Mother Lorene and her family our hope for future happiness.

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That this resolution be presented to Mother Lorene Gee Cockroft and her family, and made available to the Capitol Press Corps.
