A RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING THE EAST RANKIN ACADEMY SHOOTING SPORTS TEAM AND COACH VINCE BYNUM FOR WINNING THEIR FIFTH CONSECUTIVE MISSISSIPPI SCHOLASTIC SHOOTING PROGRAM STATE CHAMPIONSHIP.

     WHEREAS, the East Rankin "Shooting Sports" Team has won the 2024 Mississippi Scholastic Shooting Program (MSSP) Championship which is their fifth consecutive State Championship; and

     WHEREAS, the qualifying division winners in the 2024 MSSP Championship held on March 2, 2024, are:

     ·  TOP GUN AND SQUAD WINNERS:

          Top Gun Female:  Addison Brown ($1,000.00);

          1st Place Squad:  Lana Jones, Gabe Nutt and Brayden Warner ($1,000.00 each);

          2nd Place Squad:  Olivia Griffing, Evan McIlwain and Chylen Williams;

     ·  STATE CHAMPIONSHIP SPORTING CLAY INDIVIDUAL FEMALE:

          1st place:  Lana Jones ($1,000.00);

          2nd place:  Addison Brown ($750.00);

          3rd place:  Olivia Griffing ($500.00);

          4th Place:  Evan McIlwain ($250.00);

     ·  FALL QUALIFIER SOUTH DIVISION:

          1st Place Squad:  Lana Jones, Gabe Nutt and Brayden Warner;

          2nd Place Squad:  Addison Brown, Parker Davis and Abram Rowell; and

     WHEREAS, the Mississippi Scholastic Shooting Program (MSSP) is a team-based, youth development program that uses the shotgun sports of 5-Stand, Skeet and Sporting Clays to instill life skills such as discipline, safety, teamwork, ethics, self-confidence, and other life values.  The program utilizes these disciplines to teach hunting skills through the safe use of hunting equipment, including firearms, and their relationship to hunting situations.  Team members can participate in any or all three of the clay target disciplines:  5-Stand, Skeet and Sporting Clays; and

     WHEREAS, it is with great pride that we recognize this team of student athletes, coaches and parents who have worked so diligently to bring honor for five years to their school, their community and to the State of Mississippi:

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby commend and congratulate the East Rankin Academy Shooting Sports Team and Coach Vince Bynum for winning their fifth consecutive Mississippi Scholastic Shooting Program State Championship, and extend the best wishes of the Mississippi Senate to the team members, coaches, parents and sponsors for future success.

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That this resolution be presented to Coach Vince Bynum and East Rankin Academy Head of School Robyn Winstead for the team, forwarded to the East Rankin Academy Board of Trustees, and made available to the Capitol Press Corps.
