Senate Resolution 54

A RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING THE OAK GROVE HIGH SCHOOL "GOLDEN SPIRITS" DANCE TEAM AND COACH SARAH WILLIAMS FOR WINNING THE 2023 LARGE VARSITY JAZZ AND POM STATE CHAMPIONSHIP AND THEIR IMPRESSIVE RECORD OF NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP PLACEMENTS.

WHEREAS, we join the students and faculty of Oak Grove High School in Lamar County, Mississippi, in recognizing the State and National High School Jazz and Pom Honors earned by the "Golden Spirits" Dance Team; and

WHEREAS, the 2024 Universal Dance Association (UDA) National Dance Team Championship (NDTC) took place at the Disney World Resort in Orlando, Florida, on February 20, 2024. Dance teams from across the country left it all on the floor at the 2024 NDTC as the school dance season came to a conclusion. The event has marked the ending of the dance season for over four decades, and continues to promote an atmosphere of celebration and competitive spirit at the most magical place on earth, the Disney World Resort in Orlando, Florida; and

WHEREAS, the Oak Grove "Golden Spirits" Dance Team has won an impressive 13 Mississippi State Championships in Large Varsity Jazz and Pom between 2008 and 2023: 2023, 2022, 2021, 2020, 2019, 2018, 2017, 2015, 2012, 2011, 2010, 2009, and 2008 - Large Varsity Divisions; and

WHEREAS, the 2024 Oak Grove High School "Golden Spirits" Dance Team Roster is: Rebekah Adams, Presley Anderson, Connor Batson, Claire Blesse, Madelyn Casanova, Abby Kate Daniell, Lily Davis, Cara Greene, Hannah Hand, Caroline Hux, Makinley Lacher, Kerrigan Lefan, Aubrey Lilley, Anna McGuire, Sydney Morris, Sadie Perkins, Emma Sanders, Ella Thomas, Ally Weathers, Katherine Weir and Maci Wilson; and Coach Sarah Williams; and

WHEREAS, this National Championship Tournament provides a platform where athletes can showcase their incredible talent as they elevate the student experience, and it is with great pride that we recognize these student athletes who have brought honor to their school, their community and to the State of Mississippi:

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby commend and congratulate the Oak Grove High School "Golden Spirits" Dance Team and Coach Sarah Williams for winning the 2023 Large Varsity Jazz and Pom State Championship and their impressive record of National Championship Placements, and extend to the team, coaches, parents and sponsors our best wishes for future success.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That this resolution be presented to Coach Sarah Williams for the team and Oak Grove High School Principal Helen Price, forwarded to the Lamar County Board of Education, and made available to the Capitol Press Corps.
