A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION DESIGNATING FEBRUARY 6, 2024, AS "FAMILY MEDICINE APPRECIATION DAY" IN MISSISSIPPI IN HONOR OF THE 75TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE MISSISSIPPI ACADEMY OF FAMILY PHYSICIANS STATE CHARTER.
WHEREAS, on February 1, 1949, the American Academy of Family Physicians granted a state charter to the Mississippi Academy of General Practice; and
WHEREAS, upon receiving the charter, the goal of Mississippi physicians was and continues to be an effort to work together to maintain the highest quality standards for family physicians who provide comprehensive health care to the public; and
WHEREAS, the mission of the Mississippi Academy of Family Physicians is to improve the health of all Mississippians and to ensure that every Mississippian has access to a well-trained family physician to help manage his or her medical care and other health care needs; and
WHEREAS, the Mississippi Academy of Family Physicians is the largest medical specialty organization with 1,398 members statewide and includes 702 active family physicians practicing in 73 Mississippi counties; 154 resident doctors at eight family medicine residency programs located in Gulfport, Jackson, Hattiesburg, Tupelo, Greenville, Meridian, McComb and Southaven; and 542 medical students from the University of Mississippi Medical Center and William Carey University; and
WHEREAS, we recognize the remarkable men and women who diligently and carefully provide the best medical care to the citizens of this great state and to celebrate and honor their significant achievements and strides toward a healthier state:
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES CONCURRING THEREIN, That we do hereby designate February 6, 2024, as "Family Medicine Appreciation Day" in Mississippi in honor of the recent milestone of the 75th Anniversary of the Mississippi Academy of Family Physicians State Charter, and remind all citizens of the tremendous work family physicians provide for the care of the citizens of Mississippi and the betterment of communities throughout the state.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That this resolution be presented to the Mississippi Academy of Family Physicians and made available to the Capitol Press Corps.
