House Resolution 148

A RESOLUTION RECOGNIZING AND COMMENDING CONNECTING THE DOTS FOUNDATION, INC., IN HONOR OF WOMEN'S HISTORY MONTH.

     WHEREAS, on February 13, 2024, Connecting the Dots Foundation, Inc., made history in the State of Mississippi, having commissioned and secured the installation of the first portrait of a woman to be permanently displayed inside of the State Capitol building since Mississippi was admitted to the Union in 1817, a truly momentous occasion that is a shining example for Women's History Month; and

     WHEREAS, upon the retirement of Representative Alyce Griffin Clarke, Connecting the Dots Foundation, Inc., also presented the "One in a Million", A Night of Jubilee celebration on January 26, 2024, during which hundreds of people from around the country came to honor the remarkable works of one of Mississippi's most impactful legislators, Representative Clarke; and

     WHEREAS, it was at this event that the commissioned portrait, which now hangs in the education room of the beautiful State Capitol building in Jackson, Mississippi, was officially unveiled; and

     WHEREAS, Dr. Marilyn Johnson-Luckett, the founder and Executive Director of Connecting the Dots Foundation, Inc., has painstakingly honored notable Mississippians for the past 12 years, preserving their legacies for the sake of posterity, and more specifically, to provide a repository of impactful life stories that future youth of Mississippi can draw upon for inspiration that will propel them into leading notable lives themselves; and

     WHEREAS, Connecting the Dots Foundation, Inc., exists to inspire, empower and connect community service organizations by helping them to realize their dreams and accomplish their goals through the development of community activities, educational opportunities, and by procuring the necessary financial support to accommodate these initiatives; and

     WHEREAS, Connecting the Dots Foundation, Inc., inspires, empowers, and connects communities both locally and internationally by building cultural bridges and planting long range initiatives in countries such as in Malawi, Africa; and

     WHEREAS, it is the policy of the House of Representatives to recognize outstanding organizations, especially those such as Connecting the Dots Foundation, Inc., whose service and dedication brings honor to the State of Mississippi:

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby recognize and commend Connecting the Dots Foundation, Inc., in honor of Women's History Month.

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to former Representative Alyce G. Clarke, Dr. Marilyn Johnson-Luckett and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
