House Resolution 96

A RESOLUTION RECOGNIZING AND COMMEMORATING WORKERS' MEMORIAL DAY UPON THE OCCASION OF ITS 25TH ANNIVERSARY.

     WHEREAS, it is most fitting to commemorate Workers' Memorial Day in honor of workers who have lost their lives or have been injured as a result of workplace hazards; and

     WHEREAS, the Mississippi Workers' Center, which established Workers' Memorial Day, was founded on December 30, 1996, to advocate for the dignity and safety of all workers; and

     WHEREAS, the Center has brought together labor leaders, workers, youth and other concerned members of the public to commemorate and celebrate the lives of workers and advocate for safer workplace conditions; and

     WHEREAS, it is the policy of the House of Representatives to recognize exceptional Mississippi organizations, especially those such as the Mississippi Workers' Center, and to commemorate special occasions such as the 25th anniversary of Workers' Memorial Day:

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby recognize and commemorate Workers' Memorial Day on the occasion of its 25th anniversary.

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to the Mississippi Workers' Center, and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
