House Resolution 41

A RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING MR. JUSTIN STRICKLER ON BEING SELECTED AS THE 2023 STATE GAMES OF MISSISSIPPI OVERALL MALE ATHLETE OF THE YEAR.

WHEREAS, Justin Strickler is the 2023 Male Athlete of the Year for the 32nd annual installment of the State Games of Mississippi; and

WHEREAS, based on the national program, the State Games of Mississippi awards were created to celebrate and recognize Mississippi's amateur athletes by nominations from coaches, officials, athletes, volunteers, and spectators who choose one male, one female and one youth athlete who personifies the ideals of participation, sportsmanship, special attributes, achievements, efforts and positive attitudes of the State Games movement; and

WHEREAS, Justin Strickler, of Clinton, Mississippi, two-sport athlete, participated as a marksman in Pistol and Sporting Clays event during the 2023 State Games, capturing gold in the Pistol event with a time of 114.68 seconds, and a second gold in Sporting Clays for efficiently striking 97 of 100 clay targets; and

WHEREAS, one who enjoys competing in these two disciplines of hand, eye and trigger reflex coordination because it allows him to incorporate spending quality time with his son while enhancing their skills in a past time they both enjoy, Mr. Strickler shares the honor of laying claim to gold medals, making it truly a family affair, as he now adds to the family trophy case which is already adorned with his son's gold medals which were won in previous installments of the State Games; and

WHEREAS, it is the policy of the House of Representatives to recognize fine Mississippi athletes such as Mr. Strickler as its "Male Athlete of the Year," who has brought honor to his community and to the State of Mississippi:

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby commend and congratulate Mr. Justin Strickler on being selected as the 2023 State Games of Mississippi Overall Male Athlete of the Year, and express best wishes for continued success in all his future endeavors.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to Mr. Justin Strickler and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
