A RESOLUTION ACKNOWLEDGING THE OBSERVATION OF MISSISSIPPI RECOVERY DAY 2024 AT THE MISSISSIPPI STATE CAPITOL ON THURSDAY, FEBRUARY 22, 2024.

     WHEREAS, the Mississippi Recovery Advocacy Project is a network of individuals across the expanse of Mississippi, united in the mutual vein of advocating for recovery policies to address addiction and mental health as a public health issue and prioritize harm reduction; and

     WHEREAS, an affiliate of the national Recovery Action Project, the Mississippi Recovery Advocacy Project is committed to giving people in recovery from all recovery pathways, their family members and recovery supporters, the grassroots organizational tools to think and act locally, by working collaboratively with  community health and wellness stakeholders to provide support, cooperation, collaboration and advocacy for individuals in recovery; and

     WHEREAS, endeavoring to augment current good work in the recovery focused education, advocacy, and civic space by focusing on essential capital for sustained social change, the Mississippi Recovery Advocacy Project, like its national affiliate, is working to build a visible and effective constituency in demand of community and public policy based solutions in response to America's long-standing addiction crisis; and

     WHEREAS, in furtherance of this mission, individuals on both sides of recovery advocacy, who have become the "faces of recovery," either as a recipient or as a provider of the project's grassroot initiatives, will convene in Jackson, Mississippi, on Thursday, February 22, 2024, for Recovery Day 2024 at the Mississippi State Capitol to engage legislators and advocate for the support of programs tailed to advance the benefits of recovery as an implement to rehabilitate and reintegrate individuals who have successfully completed the steps of recovery back into society; and

     WHEREAS, it is the policy of the House of Representatives to acknowledge the outstanding commitment of such prolific organizations as the Mississippi Recovery Advocacy Project and its grassroots approach to providing the necessary recovery support to individuals who have faced and successfully overcome the challenges of addiction:

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby declare February 22, 2024, as Recovery Day 2024 at the Mississippi State Capitol and encourage all interested stakeholders to acknowledge its recognition, and to celebrate the life changing programs it administers.

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to the Mississippi Recovery Advocacy Project and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
