AN ACT TO DESIGNATE A SEGMENT OF MISSISSIPPI HIGHWAY 513 SOUTH IN STONEWALL, CLARKE COUNTY, MISSISSIPPI, AS THE "LANCE CORPORAL MAC HAMBURG, USMC, MEMORIAL HIGHWAY"; TO DESIGNATE A SEGMENT OF MISSISSIPPI HIGHWAY 15 SOUTH LOCATED IN WALNUT, TIPPAH COUNTY, MISSISSIPPI, AS THE "MAJ. GEN. ALBEN "AL" NORRIS HOPKINS, SR., MEMORIAL HIGHWAY"; TO DESIGNATE A SEGMENT OF U.S. HIGHWAY 72 SOUTH LOCATED IN SLAYDEN, MARSHALL COUNTY, MISSISSIPPI, AS THE "EDDIE DIXON MEMORIAL HIGHWAY"; TO DESIGNATE A SEGMENT OF MISSISSIPPI HIGHWAY 311 SOUTH LOCATED IN HOLLY SPRINGS, MARSHALL COUNTY, MISSISSIPPI, AS THE "CHARLES W. AND JUANITA THOMAS MEMORIAL HIGHWAY"; TO DESIGNATE A PORTION OF MISSISSIPPI HIGHWAY 30 LOCATED IN PRENTISS COUNTY, MISSISSIPPI, AS THE "J.P. DAVIS MEMORIAL HIGHWAY"; TO DESIGNATE A SEGMENT OF MISSISSIPPI HIGHWAY 9 IN WEBSTER COUNTY, MISSISSIPPI, AS THE "CW2 WILLIAM H. "BILL" SEABORN, JR. MEMORIAL HIGHWAY" IN MEMORY OF THE LATE CW2 WILLIAM H. SEABORN, JR., WHO VALIANTLY SACRIFICED HIS LIFE IN THE VIETNAM WAR; TO DESIGNATE A SEGMENT OF HIGHWAY 39 IN MERIDIAN, LAUDERDALE COUNTY, MISSISSIPPI, AS THE "CHERI M. BARRY MEMORIAL HIGHWAY" IN MEMORY OF THE LATE MAYOR OF MERIDIAN, CHERYL "CHERI" M. BARRY; TO DESIGNATE A SEGMENT OF MISSISSIPPI HIGHWAY 15 IN PONTOTOC COUNTY, MISSISSIPPI, AS THE "JUDGE FRED WICKER MEMORIAL HIGHWAY" IN MEMORY OF THE LATE FORMER WORLD WAR II ARMY VETERAN, MISSISSIPPI STATE SENATOR AND CIRCUIT COURT JUDGE, THOMAS FREDERICK WICKER; TO DESIGNATE A SEGMENT OF MISSISSIPPI HIGHWAY 7 IN LAFAYETTE COUNTY, MISSISSIPPI, AS THE "JOHNNY MORGAN MEMORIAL HIGHWAY" IN MEMORY OF THE LATE STATE SENATOR AND PRESIDENT OF THE LAFAYETTE COUNTY BOARD OF SUPERVISORS, JOHNNY MORGAN; TO DESIGNATE A SEGMENT OF MISSISSIPPI HIGHWAY 57 IN GREENE COUNTY, MISSISSIPPI, AS THE PURPLE HEART HIGHWAY; TO DESIGNATE A SEGMENT OF U.S. HIGHWAY 98 SOUTH LOCATED IN GEORGE COUNTY, MISSISSIPPI, AS THE "DEPUTY JEREMY MALONE MEMORIAL HIGHWAY"; TO DESIGNATE A SEGMENT OF U.S. INTERSTATE 269 LOCATED IN DESOTO COUNTY, MISSISSIPPI, AS THE "MASON WILBANKS MEMORIAL HIGHWAY"; AND FOR RELATED PURPOSES.
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI:
SECTION 1. (1) The segment of Mississippi Highway 513 South located in Stonewall, Clarke County, Mississippi, beginning at its intersection with Church Street, and running northwesterly for a distance of approximately one (1) mile, more or less, to the Chickasawhay River in Enterprise, Clarke County, Mississippi, is designated and shall be known as the "Lance Corporal Mac Hamburg, USMC, Memorial Highway."
(2) The Mississippi Department of Transportation shall erect and maintain appropriate signs along and approaching the segment of the highway described in subsection (1) of this section.
SECTION 2. (1) The segment of Mississippi Highway 15 South located in Walnut, Tippah County, Mississippi, beginning at the entrance of the Walnut Fire Department, and running southerly for a distance of one (1) mile, more or less, to the bridge located thereon which crosses Hurricane Creek, due north of Souls Harbor Apostolic Church, is designated and shall be known as the "Maj. Gen. Alben "Al" Norris Hopkins, Sr., Memorial Highway."
(2) The Mississippi Department of Transportation shall erect and maintain appropriate signs along and approaching the segment of the highway described in subsection (1) of this section.
SECTION 3. (1) The segment of U.S. Highway 72 South located in Slayden, Marshall County, Mississippi, extending for a total distance of approximately one (1) mile, consisting of a distance of one-half (1/2) mile in the easterly direction of U.S. Highway 72 and a distance of one-half (1/2) mile in the westerly direction of U.S. Highway 72, with the central point of beginning in both the easterly and westerly directions being the entrance of the H.W. Byers School, is designated and shall be known as the "Eddie Dixon Memorial Highway."
(2) The Mississippi Department of Transportation shall erect and maintain appropriate signs along and approaching the segment of the highway described in subsection (1) of this section.
SECTION 4. (1) The segment of Mississippi Highway 311 South located in Holly Springs, Marshall County, Mississippi, beginning at its intersection with MS Highway 7, and running northerly for a distance of one (1) mile, more or less, to its intersection with Landfill Road, is designated and shall be known as the "Charles W. and Juanita Thomas Memorial Highway."
(2) The Mississippi Department of Transportation shall erect and maintain appropriate signs along and approaching the segment of the highway described in subsection (1) of this section.
SECTION 5. (1) The segment of Mississippi Highway 30 located in Prentiss County, Mississippi, extending for a total distance of approximately one (1) mile, consisting of a distance of one-half (1/2) mile in the easterly direction of Mississippi Highway 30 and a distance of one-half (1/2) mile in the westerly direction of Mississippi Highway 30 from Prentiss County, Mississippi, with the central point of beginning in both the easterly and westerly directions being the location of the home of Mr. J.P. Davis, shall be known as the "J.P. Davis Memorial Highway."
(2) The Mississippi Department of Transportation shall erect and maintain appropriate signs along and approaching the segment of highway described in subsection (1) of this section.
SECTION 6. (1) The segment of Mississippi Highway 9 located in Webster County, Mississippi, extending from North Lake Circle in Eupora, Mississippi, in a northern direction for approximately one (1) mile to Dump Road in Eupora, Mississippi, is designated and shall be known as the "CW2 William H. "Bill" Seaborn, Jr. Memorial Highway" in memory of the late CW2 William H. "Bill" Seaborn, Jr., who was the recipient of four (4) military medals and who valiantly sacrificed his life in the Vietnam War.
(2) The Mississippi Department of Transportation shall erect and maintain appropriate signs along and approaching the segment of highway described in subsection (1) of this section.
SECTION 7. (1) The segment of Highway 39 that starts at North Hill Street located in the City of Meridian, Lauderdale County, Mississippi, and extends in a southward direction for one (1) mile is designated and shall be known as the "Cheri M. Barry Memorial Highway" in memory of the late former Meridian Mayor, Cheryl "Cheri" M. Barry, who was a diligent public servant, humanitarian and trailblazer.
(2) The Mississippi Department of Transportation shall erect and maintain appropriate signs along and approaching the segment of highway described in subsection (1) of this section.
SECTION 8. (1) The section of Mississippi Highway 15 located in Pontotoc County, Mississippi, beginning at the intersection of Mississippi Highway 15 and Mississippi Highway 278 in Pontotoc, Mississippi, and extending approximately one (1) mile south, is designated and shall be known as the "Judge Fred Wicker Memorial Highway" in memory of the late former World War II Army Veteran, Mississippi State Senator and Circuit Court Judge, Thomas Frederick Wicker.
(2) The Mississippi Department of Transportation shall erect and maintain appropriate signs along and approaching the segment of highway described in subsection (1) of this section.
SECTION 9. (1) The section of Mississippi Highway 7 located in Lafayette County, Mississippi, beginning at the intersection of Mississippi Highway 7 North and County Road 299 in Oxford, Mississippi, and extending north for approximately one (1) mile to County Road 1018 in Oxford, Mississippi, shall be known as the "Johnny Morgan Memorial Highway" in memory of the late State Senator and President of the Lafayette County Board of Supervisors, Johnny Morgan.
(2) The Mississippi Department of Transportation shall erect and maintain appropriate signs along and approaching the segment of highway described in subsection (1) of this section.
SECTION 10. (1) The section of Mississippi Highway 57 located in Greene County, Mississippi, that begins at Canaan Land United Pentecostal Church in Leakesville, Mississippi, and extends approximately one (1) mile east to the Big Creek Bridge in Hillman, Mississippi, shall be known as the "Purple Heart Highway" in honor of Rawleigh X.L. Bradley, who was injured during the Korean Conflict and was subsequently awarded the Purple Heart.
(2) The Mississippi Department of Transportation shall erect and maintain appropriate signs along and approaching the segment of highway described in subsection (1) of this section.
SECTION 11. (1) The segment of U.S. Highway 98 South located in George County, Mississippi, beginning at its intersection with Brushy Creek Road, and running westerly for a distance of approximately one (1) mile, more or less, towards its intersection with Rocky Creek Road in George County, Mississippi, is designated and shall be known as the "Deputy Jeremy Malone Memorial Highway."
(2) The Mississippi Department of Transportation shall erect and maintain appropriate signs along and approaching the segment of the highway described in subsection (1) of this section.
SECTION 12. (1) The segment of U.S. Interstate 269 located in DeSoto County, Mississippi, extending for a total distance of approximately one (1) mile, consisting of a distance of one-half (1/2) mile in the easterly direction of U.S. Interstate 269 and a distance of one-half (1/2) mile in the westerly direction of U.S. Interstate 269, with Exit 1 at McIngvale Road being designated as the central point of beginning in both the easterly and westerly directions, shall be known as the "Mason Wilbanks Memorial Highway."
(2) The Mississippi Department of Transportation shall erect and maintain appropriate signs along and approaching the segment of highway described in subsection (1) of this section.
SECTION 13. This act shall take effect and be in force from and after July 1, 2024.
