AN ACT TO AMEND SECTION 55-15-21, MISSISSIPPI CODE OF 1972, TO REVISE THE COMPOSITION OF THE GRAND GULF MILITARY MONUMENT COMMISSION TO INCREASE THE NUMBER OF COMMISSION MEMBERS; TO PROVIDE THAT ONE ADDITIONAL MEMBER SHALL BE APPOINTED BY THE GOVERNOR FROM THE STATE AT-LARGE AFTER CONSIDERATION OF RECOMMENDATIONS FOR THE APPOINTMENT MADE BY THE SPEAKER OF THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES AND ONE ADDITIONAL MEMBER SHALL BE APPOINTED FROM THE STATE AT-LARGE BY THE LIEUTENANT GOVERNOR; AND FOR RELATED PURPOSES.

     BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI:

     SECTION 1.  Section 55-15-21, Mississippi Code of 1972, is amended as follows:

     55-15-21.  There is hereby created and established the Grand Gulf Military Monument Commission, to be composed of five (5) members, all to be resident citizens of Claiborne County, Mississippi.  The members shall be appointed by the Governor and shall serve for a period of five (5) years.  From and after July 1, 2024, the commission shall be composed of seven (7) members. Five (5) members, all to be resident citizens of Claiborne County, Mississippi, shall be appointed by the Governor and shall serve for a period of five (5) years, and one (1) member shall be appointed by the Governor from the state-at-large and shall serve for a period of five (5) years.  Such member to be appointed by the Governor from the state at-large shall be appointed only after consideration of recommendations for the appointment made by the Speaker of the House of Representatives to the Governor, and such member shall serve for a period of five (5) years.  One (1) member shall be appointed from the state-at-large by the Lieutenant Governor and shall serve for a period of five (5) years.  Members serving before July 1, 2024, will continue to serve in accordance with their term and when such a member's term ends, the position will be filled by appointment of the Governor.

     SECTION 2.  This act shall take effect and be in force from and after July 1, 2024.
