House Bill 1470

AN ACT TO PROVIDE THAT THE STATE DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH SHALL DEVELOP WRITTEN INFORMATION MATERIALS ABOUT COMPLICATIONS OF PREGNANCY DUE TO PREECLAMPSIA AND DISTRIBUTE THOSE MATERIALS TO PHYSICIANS, NURSE PRACTITIONERS AND OTHER HEALTH CARE PROVIDERS AND ORGANIZATIONS THAT PROVIDE SERVICES TO PREGNANT WOMEN; TO REQUIRED PHYSICIANS, NURSE PRACTITIONERS AND OTHER HEALTH CARE PROVIDERS AND ORGANIZATIONS THAT PROVIDE SERVICES TO PREGNANT WOMEN TO PROVIDE AND EXPLAIN THE INFORMATION MATERIALS TO PREGNANT WOMEN AT THE INITIAL VISIT WITH THE PROVIDER DURING THEIR PREGNANCY; AND FOR RELATED PURPOSES.

     BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI:

     SECTION 1.  (1)  The State Department of Health shall develop written information materials about complications of pregnancy due to preeclampsia, including identifying the population most at risk for preeclampsia, risk factors for preeclampsia, early signs and symptoms of preeclampsia, and how to treat and manage preeclampsia, and shall distribute those information materials to physicians, nurse practitioners and other health care providers and organizations that provide services to pregnant women.  The department shall also provide this information electronically on its website.

     (2)  Physicians, nurse practitioners and other health care providers and organizations that provide services to pregnant women shall provide and explain the information materials to pregnant women at the initial visit with the provider during their pregnancy.

     SECTION 2.  This act shall take effect and be in force from and after July 1, 2024.
