A RESOLUTION TO COMMEND AND RECOGNIZE DISTRICT 11 STATE SENATOR ROBERT L. JACKSON FOR HIS DISTINGUISHED SERVICE IN THE MISSISSIPPI SENATE.
WHEREAS, District 11 State Senator Robert L. Jackson has announced that he will not be seeking reelection to the Mississippi Senate. He has represented Senate District 11, which includes portions of Coahoma, Panola, Quitman and Tunica Counties, for 20 years. In Robert Jackson, the citizens of District 11 have had effective representation from a dedicated public servant with extensive experience in economic and community development; and
WHEREAS, first elected to office in 2004, Senator Jackson served in the Mississippi Senate for five terms. Proud of his accomplishments in the Legislature, Robert Jackson said he has always enjoyed working in the Senate and will miss it when he finishes this year; and
WHEREAS, Senator Jackson attended Northwest Junior College and The University of Southern Mississippi. His professional experience includes working as a community development practitioner; and
WHEREAS, in 2020-2021, Senator Jackson was assigned to the following committees: Executive Contingent Fund, Chair; Enrolled Bills, Vice-Chair; Gaming; Tourism; Agriculture; Appropriations; Business and Financial Institutions; County Affairs; and Energy; and
WHEREAS, Robert Jackson has enjoyed working with Boards of Supervisors, Chancery Clerks, Circuit Clerks, Tax Assessors, Sheriffs, Justice Court Judges, Superintendents of Education, Mayors and Boards of Aldermen, and the many others elected on the local level. He has helped countless individuals with the many and varied problems that they had with local, state and federal governmental entities. Senator Jackson has been most involved in supporting public education, jobs, health care and roads/bridges, particularly widening bridge replacement on Mississippi Highway 6. Collectively he has over 42 years of public service; and
WHEREAS, Senator Jackson is a member of Alpha Phi Alpha, 21st Century Investment Club, Quitman County Social Service Club for Senior Citizens, and Aaron F. Henry Community Health Center Board. He is married to Gloria Jean Richmond and they have six children: Nikara, Reginald, Zakiya, Danielle, Lalita and Dametria; and
WHEREAS, Senator Jackson's service has been marked by his commitment to success and recognized leadership, sound judgment, civility, courtesy and fairness. He has set the highest standard in all of his many roles: husband, father, developer, statesman, community leader, leader in the Mississippi Senate, and as a true friend. Robert's service honored both the Mississippi Senate and this great state that he loves and serves:
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby commend and recognize District 11 State Senator Robert L. Jackson for his distinguished service in the Mississippi Senate.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That this resolution be presented to Senator Robert Jackson and made available to the Capitol Press Corps.
