A RESOLUTION CELEBRATING THE 100TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE MONTGOMERY COUNTY FARM BUREAU AND COMMEMORATING ITS HISTORY AND CONTRIBUTIONS TO AGRICULTURE IN OUR STATE.

     WHEREAS, the American Farm Bureau was created in 1919 to disseminate college research results to farmers and has since grown into one of America's strongest lobbying organizations, with six million members and affiliated services and member benefits that include highly respected insurance companies.  The newly minted farm organization gave farmers and ranchers a voice and a seat at the table with the powerful economic interests of the day-business, manufacturing, railroads and labor.  American Farm Bureau is the national advocate for farm and ranch families through good times and bad, supporting the belief that a more prosperous agriculture contributes to the well-being of all Americans; and

     WHEREAS, Montgomery County Farm Bureau was chartered on February 21, 1923, as a proud affiliate of the American Farm Bureau, with the intent of developing the best system of production and marketing in agriculture and promoting the social and economic welfare of those engaged in agriculture, and improving the standard of life in rural Montgomery County.  Thirteen members met and organized in the local County Extension Service; and

     WHEREAS, at the opening of court in Winona on Monday, April 23, 1923, Judge Lamb recognized Farm Bureau Cotton Association President B.B. Wiggins to explain what the association could mean to Montgomery County farmers and businessmen; and

     WHEREAS, one hundred years later Montgomery County Farm Bureau is still protecting the interest of the farmers, protecting their interest in the changing world of agriculture; and

     WHEREAS, the mission of the Montgomery County Farm Bureau Federation is to create an environment in which farmers, ranchers and Farm Bureau members can have a better life and make a better living; and

     WHEREAS, it is with great pride that we commend an effective advocacy organization which is the Voice of Agriculture in the State of Mississippi:

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby recognize the 100th Anniversary of the Montgomery County Farm Bureau Federation and commemorate its history and contributions to agriculture in our state, and extend to all members our best wishes on the auspicious celebration on March 31, 2023, at the local County Farm Bureau Office.

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That this resolution be presented on March 31, 2023, at the Montgomery County Farm Bureau Office, forwarded to the Mississippi Commissioner of Agriculture and Commerce, and be made available to the Capitol Press Corps.
