A RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING THE SIMPSON COUNTY ACADEMY "COUGARS" BOYS BASKETBALL TEAM AND COACH JOSH MCNULTY FOR WINNING BACK-TO-BACK MAIS 5A STATE CHAMPIONSHIPS.

     WHEREAS, we join the students, faculty and parents of Simpson County Academy in recognizing the "Cougars" Boys Basketball Team and Head Coach Josh McNulty for winning consecutive MAIS 5A State Championships; and

     WHEREAS, Simpson Academy played Oak Forest on February 18, 2023, in the MAIS 5A Tournament hosted by Pillow Academy.  The "Cougars" played a tough game that ended in their favor with a score of 60-50.  Simpson County Academy advanced to the MAIS Overall Tournament hosted at Mississippi College on February 23, 2023; and

     WHEREAS, congratulations to Chanse Funchess, Colin Jenkins, Sawyer Dunn and Gage Smith for making the MAIS 5A All-Tournament Team; and

     WHEREAS, the 2022-2023 "Cougars" Championship Team is: Sawyer Dunn, Jay Rankin, Gage Smith, Colin Jenkins, Walker Phillips, Denver Carter, Braden Overby, Chanse Funchess, Bryce Williams, Benjamin Kennedy, Calvin Smith, Riley Clark, Dylan Perdomo and Head Coach Josh McNulty; and

     WHEREAS, it is with great pride that we recognize this group of student athletes who have brought honor to their school, their community and to the State of Mississippi:

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby commend and congratulate the Simpson County Academy "Cougars" Boys Basketball Team and Coach Josh McNulty for winning back-to-back MAIS 5A State Championships, and extend to the team, coaches, parents and sponsors our best wishes for future athletic and academic success.

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That this resolution be presented to Coach Josh McNulty for the team and Simpson County Academy Headmaster Nick Lee, forwarded to the Simpson County Academy Board of Trustees and made available to the Capitol Press Corps.
