Senate Resolution 49

A RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING THE OCEAN SPRINGS HIGH SCHOOL "GREYHOUNDS" CHEER TEAM AND HEAD COACH ROBIN THOMAS FOR WINNING THE MHSAA CLASS 6A STATE CHAMPIONSHIP.

WHEREAS, the Ocean Springs High School "Greyhounds" Cheerleaders brought home a Mississippi High School 6A State Championship Title. The team received a trophy and a banner at the State Competition in Jackson, Mississippi, on December 10, 2022, and each girl received a medallion and patch. The team advanced to the National Competition on February 11-12, 2023, in Orlando; and

WHEREAS, "What an honor it is," Ocean Springs Head Coach Robin Thomas said. "We have not had the State Title in several years and were prepared to get it back. The girls have worked so hard for this achievement. We hit a 2-1/2 minute routine and it was flawless and it is a one-shot deal." Coach Thomas, who has been Cheerleader Coach at Ocean Springs High School for 17 years and Head Coach for the past four years said, "We practice two to three hours everyday and their skill level is top notch. They had a goal and pushed daily to achieve it"; and

WHEREAS, Ocean Springs High School Cheerleaders include: Abigail Hunter, Alli Ferguson, Analese Gibbons, Brooklyn Pizzetta, Brooklynn Lancaster, Caitlin Alfonso, Camryn Carter, Cayden Black, Emma Jean Carter, Hayden Roland, Jamie Adkins, Jenna Fulton, Jimisha Thomas, Katie Dyess, Katy Lou Geiser, Kylee Reeves, Lauren Bridges, Lauren Penny, Madeline Tynes, Madilyn Mack, Madison Jones, Marykate Jones, Olivia Flinchum, Presley Gough, Presley Jo Cates, Reagan Patout, Savannah West, Tatiana Powe, Vivian Monforton and Noelle Levi. Coach Robin Thomas is assisted by Coaches Teresa Sage and Meghan Jones; and

WHEREAS, it is with great pride that we recognize these young student athletes who have brought honor to their school, their community and to the State of Mississippi:

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby commend and congratulate the Ocean Springs High School "Greyhounds" Cheer Team and Head Coach Robin Thomas for winning the MHSAA Class 6A State Championship, and extend to the team, coaches, parents and sponsors our best wishes for continued athletic and academic success.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That this resolution be presented to Coach Robin Thomas for the team and Ocean Springs Principal Braxton Stowe, forwarded to the Ocean Springs School Board, and be made available to the Capitol Press Corps.
