Senate Resolution 34

A RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING THE BROOKHAVEN HIGH SCHOOL "OLE BROOK" GIRLS TENNIS TEAM AND COACH STEPHANIE TRIPLETT FOR WINNING THE STATE DOUBLES TITLE AT THE 2022 MHSAA 5A INDIVIDUAL TENNIS CHAMPIONSHIP.

WHEREAS, the Brookhaven High School Tennis Team members again showed they are among the best in the MHSAA 5A ranks on May 1, 2022, with a State Title victory in Oxford at the MHSAA Individual Tennis Championship; and

WHEREAS, a year after winning a State Championship in mixed doubles, "Ole Brook" Freshman Caroline Kilpatrick brought home gold again; this time pairing with junior Lucy Allen to win the Girls Doubles Championship over a team from Lafayette High; and

WHEREAS, Kilpatrick and Allen were seeded No. 9 in the tournament and began play by defeating the No. 8 seeded team from West Jones. They moved on to the semifinals with a win against a Lafayette team that was the No. 1 seed in the brackets; and

WHEREAS, in the semifinals, the Brookhaven High duo defeated Long Beach in a match that had a second set tiebreaker and then went to a tiebreaking third set, as well; and

WHEREAS, Lafayette won the first set of the title match by a 6-3 advantage before Brookhaven High came back to tie things up with a 6-1 win in the second set. Kilpatrick and Allen won the third set 10-3 to secure the championship; and

WHEREAS, it is with great pride that we recognize these student athletes who have brought honor to their school, their community and to the State of Mississippi:

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby commend and congratulate the Brookhaven High School "Ole Brook" Girls Tennis Team and Coach Stephanie Triplett for winning the State Doubles Title at the 2022 MHSAA 5A Individual Tennis Championship and extend to the team, coaches, parents and sponsors our best wishes for future success.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That this resolution be presented to Caroline Kilpatrick and Lucy Allen and Coach Stephanie Triplett for the team, forwarded to Brookhaven High School Principal David Martin and the Brookhaven School Board and made available to the Capitol Press Corps.
