Senate Resolution 3

A RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING REVEREND DR. LISA ALLEN-MCLAURIN FOR HER APPOINTMENT AS THE MUSIC SCHOLAR-IN-RESIDENCE AND INTERIM CHORAL DIRECTOR AT THE AMERICAN CHURCH IN PARIS, FRANCE.

     WHEREAS, we join the Reverend Dr. Lisa Allen-McLaurin's family, friends, congregation, and colleagues in honoring her upon her appointment as the Music Scholar-in-Residence and Interim Choral Director at the American Church in Paris, France; and

     WHEREAS, the Reverend Dr. Allen-McLaurin is an Emmy and Webby Award-Winning Pastor, Professor and Public Theologian who serves as the Coordinator of Practical Ministries for the Sixth Episcopal District of the Christian Methodist Episcopal Church.  The Reverend Dr. Allen-McLaurin also serves as the Helmar Emil Nielsen Professor of Church Music and Worship and Degree Coordinator for the Master of Arts in Liturgical Arts and Culture at the Interdenominational Theological Center in Atlanta, Georgia; and

     WHEREAS, the Reverend Dr. Allen-McLaurin holds Bachelor's, Master's and Doctoral degrees in Piano and Music Education from Millsaps College and the University of Southern Mississippi.  The Reverend Dr. Allen-McLaurin also holds the Master of Divinity degree from the Candler School of Theology at Emory University; and

     WHEREAS, the Reverend Dr. Allen-McLaurin is the author of three books, including:

     ·  A Womanist Theology of Worship: Liturgy, Justice, and Communal Righteousness (2021);

     ·  Development Comes Before Deliverance:  A 9-Week Sermon Series and Bible Study on the Book of Exodus (2018); and

     ·  Worship Matters!  A Collection of Essays on the Practical and Spiritual Discipline of Worship (2015):

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby commend and congratulate the Reverend Dr. Lisa Allen-McLaurin for her appointment to the positions of Music Scholar-in-Residence and Interim Choral Director at the American Church in Paris, France, and extend to her and her family our best wishes for continued musical, scholarly and spiritual success in her future endeavors.

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That this resolution be presented to the Reverend Dr. Allen-McLaurin, forwarded to the Interdenominational Theological Center in Atlanta, Georgia, and made available to the Capitol Press Corps.
