Senate Concurrent Resolution 521

(As Adopted by Senate and House)

A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING THE BAY SPRINGS HIGH SCHOOL "BULLDOGS" FOOTBALL TEAM AND HEAD COACH DAN BRADY FOR WINNING THE MHSAA CLASS 1A STATE FOOTBALL CHAMPIONSHIP FOR THE SECOND CONSECUTIVE YEAR.

WHEREAS, the Bay Springs High School "Bulldogs" Football Team had all the points it needed to secure a second consecutive state title before its offense even touched the ball; and

WHEREAS, opposing team's, McEvans' punt on the opening drive of the game was blocked by the "Bulldogs" and picked up by Malaki Page, who rushed into the end zone to set Bay Springs on its way to a 22-0 victory in the MHSAA 1A State Championship Game at M.M. Roberts Stadium; and

WHEREAS, "I think that's really when it started," Bay Springs Coach Dan Brady said.  From there, the Bay Springs (14-1) defense went to work.  Under Defensive Coach Regrick Young, the "Bulldogs" had allowed only six points total in their three playoff games leading up to the championship.  They turned in a similar excellent performance on December 2, 2022.  With the Bay Springs defense dominating, the game fell out of reach for McEvans quickly; and

WHEREAS, Ty Jones' 19-yard touchdown run and an ensuing two-point conversion put the "Bulldogs" up 22-0 with 6:49 remaining in the third quarter, a deficit much too large for the "Hawks" to overcome.  Jones keyed a prolific Bay Springs series of rushing attacks that allowed the "Bulldogs" to play risk-free football after taking an early lead.  He rushed 15 times for 105 yards and two touchdowns in his final high school game, and he did it with an injured shoulder; and

WHEREAS, the 2022 Bay Springs High School "Bulldogs" Championship Roster is:  Jamare Holiday, Anthony Newell, Demarian Jones, Jaylen Gammage, Destin Nelson, Myles Ross, Espen Campbell, Tyrick Jones, Nathan Gavin, Tyrice Holloway, Jarail Washington, Tyrique Roberts, JD Page, Toreion McCurdy, Zarian Pittman, Jamarcus Smith, Dalyn Pierce, Anthony Ross, Kevin Keys, Kerrion Keyes, Caleb Plummer, Malaki Page, James Ross, Tyrick McLaurin, Zavian Johnson, Kavaji Bolton, Caleb Keyes, Kelo Thigpen, Jariath Buckley, Tylar Goodloe, Rondarius Henry, Demarion Campbell, King Cole, Trevarius Keys, Julius Holliday, Robert Bender, Travion Keys, James Wilson, Aubrey Gilmore, Kamron Beavers, Don Quince, Destin Singleton, John Andrews, Jr., Javon Cunningham, Jayden McCormick, Brandon Clayton, Ladarren Gammage, Jaxton Moore, Tyler Hartfield, Destin Ellis, Tim Duckworth, Head Coach Dan Brady and Assistant Coaches Benjamin Justice, Corey Mackey, Destin Ellis, Ken Carter and Regrick Young; and

WHEREAS, it is with great pride that we recognize this group of student athletes who have brought honor to their school, their community and to the State of Mississippi:

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES CONCURRING THEREIN, That we do hereby commend and congratulate the Bay Springs High School "Bulldogs" Football Team and Head Coach Dan Brady for winning the MHSAA Class 1A State Football Championship for the second consecutive year, and extend the best wishes of the Legislature to the team, coaches, parents and sponsors for future success.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That this resolution be presented to Coach Dan Brady for the team and Bay Springs High School Principal Dr. Kesia Pope, forwarded to the Jasper County Board of Education and made available to the Capitol Press Corps.
