Senate Concurrent Resolution 514

A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING THE SUMRALL HIGH SCHOOL "BOBCATS" BASEBALL TEAM AND COACH ANDY DAVIS FOR WINNING THE MHSAA CLASS 4A STATE CHAMPIONSHIP WHICH IS THEIR SIXTH STATE TITLE IN SCHOOL HISTORY.

WHEREAS, on May 26, 2022, the Sumrall High School "Bobcats" Baseball Team defeated Pontotoc 11-4 to sweep the series and claim the Mississippi MHSAA Class 4A State Championship at Trustmark Park in Pearl; and

WHEREAS, it is the "Bobcats" (35-1) sixth State Title in school history and first since 2015. Sumrall is ranked No. 2 in the nation in Baseball America's latest Top 25 rankings; and

WHEREAS, Ethan Aultman had two hits to lead Sumrall offensively and was named the series Most Valuable Player; and

WHEREAS, "I've gained confidence and being more comfortable at the plate and have been seeing the ball really well," Aultman said. "After last year losing in the State Championship like we did, there is no better feeling than winning it"; and

WHEREAS, the second-best high school baseball team in the country according to Baseball America, the "Bobcats" stunned Pontotoc by coming back from a 5-1 deficit in the bottom of the 7th inning to send the game to the extras, tied at 5-5. The "Bobcats" then walked it off in the 8th; and

WHEREAS, the baseball team bus left Jackson and was escorted all the way to Sumrall on Highway 589 with a crowd to welcome them back home; and

WHEREAS, the 2022 Sumrall High School Baseball State Championship Team Roster is: Hayes Raner, Cruz Freeman, Cade Dedeaux, Levi Odom, Logan Graves, Malek McNair, Landon Holliman, Brycen Smith, Landon Hawkins, Andrew Knight, Hampton Baudoin, Barrett Breazeale, Ethan Aultman, Briggs McDonald, Marshall Phillips, Ryan Cole Broom, Grant Robbins, Brandon Harrison, Rylee McGrew, Carson Moon, Keaton Mauldin, Darren Robbins, Tyson Hicks, Leo Odom, Cade Clinton, Walker Long, Kody Broom, Matthew Mauldin, Jaran Goar, Cadyn Williamson and Conner Walker; and Head Coach Andy Davis; and

WHEREAS, it is with great pride that we recognize this group of student athletes who have brought honor to their school, their community and to the State of Mississippi:

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES CONCURRING THEREIN, That we do hereby commend and congratulate the Sumrall High School "Bobcats" Baseball Team and Coach Andy Davis for winning the MHSAA Class 4A State Championship which is their sixth State Title in school history and extend to the team, coaches, parents and sponsors our best wishes for future success.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That this resolution be presented to Coach Andy Davis and Sumrall Principal Matt Thomas, forwarded to the Lamar County Board of Education and be made available to the Capitol Press Corps.
