Senate Concurrent Resolution 513

A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING THE NEWTON COUNTY HIGH SCHOOL "COUGARS" CHEERLEADING TEAM AND CHEER COACH TONYA NOWELL FOR WINNING THE MHSAA CLASS 4A STATE CHAMPIONSHIP.

WHEREAS, the Newton County High School "Cougars" Cheer Team captured the 4A Game Day State Championship Title in Jackson on December 10, 2022; and

WHEREAS, the 2022 "Cougars" Cheer Team is coached by Tonya Nowell, who has led this talented group to statewide recognition; and

WHEREAS, the 2022 Championship Cheer Team members are: Tierra Jones, Amelia Claire Bracken, Sydney Miller, Alexis Barrett, Billie Baucum, Anna Pierce, Alli Claire Amis, Kaylee McDowell, Valli Weems, Brooklyn Mowdy, Alex Weir, Audrie Gentry, Kinly Vick, Skylar Patricola, Faith Dejarnett, Aubrie Skinner, Shelby McLemore, Eva Swann, Macy Hale and Abby Gist; Co-Captain, Gracie Measell and Captain, Carlie Kitchings; and

WHEREAS, Newton County High School students are challenged each day to thrive. The faculty and staff are tenacious in their pursuit of excellence for the students they serve. They have a heart for education and they value each student who enters their classroom. The school administrative team works to provide a safe and positive school environment for all stakeholders promoting collaboration with staff, students and parents; and

WHEREAS, it is with great pride that we recognize this group of student athletes who have brought honor to their school, their community and to the State of Mississippi:

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES CONCURRING THEREIN, That we do hereby commend and congratulate the Newton County High School "Cougars" Cheerleading Team and Cheer Coach Tonya Nowell for winning the MHSAA Class 4A State Championship, and we extend to the team, coach, parents and sponsors our best wishes for future success.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That this resolution be presented to Coach Tonya Nowell for the team, forwarded to Newton County High School Principal Cody Killen and the Newton County Board of Education and made available to the Capitol Press Corps.
