AN ACT TO REMOVE THE MINORITY OF CERTAIN BENEFICIARIES OF INSURANCE POLICIES WHERE THE INSURED IS A MEMBER OR VETERAN OF THE UNITED STATES ARMED FORCES; AND FOR RELATED PURPOSES.

     BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI:

     SECTION 1.  Any citizen of this State, who is:

          (a)  A named beneficiary of a life insurance policy where the insured is a member or veteran of the United States Armed Forces, including National Guard or Reserves; and

          (b)  Married, unmarried and at least eighteen (18) years old, or legally emancipated, shall be entitled to the benefits provided in the policy, and for so doing the minority of such person is hereby removed to authorize the same.  The removal of minority shall extend to the right to file suit under the policy and receive any settlements under the policy.

     SECTION 2.  This act shall take effect and be in force from and after July 1, 2023.
