A RESOLUTION COMMENDING THE HONORABLE AND DISTINGUISHED GENTLEMAN FROM MONROE, REPRESENTATIVE CHRIS BROWN, FOR HIS ESTEEMED LEGISLATIVE CAREER AND PUBLIC SERVICE UPON THE OCCASION OF HIS DEPARTURE FROM THE MISSISSIPPI HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES.

     WHEREAS, the honorable and distinguished Gentleman from Monroe, Representative Chris Brown, has announced his departure from the Mississippi House of Representatives at the conclusion of his current term, after working on behalf of the citizens of Mississippi and House District 20, which encompasses Monroe, Itawamba, and Lee Counties, marking a triumphant end to 12 years of legislative service in the hallowed halls of the Mississippi State Capitol; and

     WHEREAS, before assuming his seat as a member of the House of Representatives from District 20 in 2012, Representative Brown grew up in Desoto County, graduated from Walnut High School in Tippah County, attended Northeast Mississippi Community College in Prentiss County, and furthered his education at the University of Memphis; and

     WHEREAS, after his election to the House of Representatives in 2011, Representative Brown became the distinguished Gentleman from Monroe upon being sworn into office on the first day of his first legislative session in January 2012, and he wasted no time requesting the legislation, amendments and reports that would help effectuate into law the ideologies and policy changes that his constituents had elected him to further; and

     WHEREAS, during his tenure as a legislator, Representative Brown served as Chairman of the Conservation and Water Resources Committee from 2020 until 2024 and Chairman of the Medicaid Committee from 2016 until 2020, and he also served as a member of numerous other committees, such as:  Appropriations, Agriculture, Banking and Financial Services, Constitution, Management, Judiciary A, Judiciary En Banc, Public Health, Transportation, Ways and Means, and Wildlife, Fisheries and Parks; and

     WHEREAS, Representative Brown's greatest memories will always be the time spent with the House members he served with, the friendships he has made across the state and across party lines, and getting to know everyone who makes the Capitol function so that the House members are able to serve the people; and

     WHEREAS, among the multitude of memorable and significant legislation that was passed during Representative Brown's service in the House, those of which he is most proud and which he personally supported or made important contributions to, include changing the qualifications of the director of Medicaid, and House Bill No. 1090, that reformed the Medicaid program to better serve its beneficiaries; income tax elimination; third grade reading gate; defending the unborn, and many others; and

     WHEREAS, not one to limit his community involvement to the Legislature, Representative Brown, an eighth-generation Mississippian and business owner, has always been active in his district and dedicated to improving the quality of life for all citizens, as evidenced by his service and affiliation as a member of the Chamber of Commerce, Gideons International, National Rifle Association (NRA), Republican Executive Committee, Monroe County Republican Executive Committee, Leadership Monroe, and the AOPA; and

     WHEREAS, the service of Representative Brown would be without honor but for the continued support, encouragement and love of his family, who have endured the difficulties that accompany the life of an elected official, and much credit is also due to his loved ones who have sacrificed countless hours without him in order to allow him to fulfill his legislative obligations; and

     WHEREAS, outside of his exceptional career and legislative service, Representative Brown is a faithful member of Ripley Primitive Baptist Church, where he has been active in overseas missions in both Africa and Siberia, and he also enjoys hunting, camping, and spending time with his family in the great outdoors; and

     WHEREAS, the members of the House of Representatives will cherish the bond and common goals for the betterment of this great state shared with Representative Brown over the course of the past 12 years; and

     WHEREAS, it is the policy of the House of Representatives to honor the service of our colleague and friend, Representative Chris Brown, who represented District 20, the Mississippi Legislature, and the State of Mississippi with honor and dignity:

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby commend the honorable, distinguished Gentleman from Monroe, Representative Chris Brown, for his esteemed legislative career, and express fondest respect and best wishes for continued success in all his future endeavors.

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to Representative Chris Brown and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
