House Resolution 193

A RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING BOONEVILLE HIGH SCHOOL GIRLS AND BOYS BASKETBALL HEAD COACH MICHAEL SMITH FOR BEING THE ONLY HIGH SCHOOL COACH IN MISSISSIPPI HISTORY TO WIN CONSECUTIVE STATE CHAMPIONSHIPS IN BOTH GIRLS AND BOYS BASKETBALL.

WHEREAS, on March 4, 2023, Coach Michael Smith became the only high school coach in Mississippi history to win consecutive state championships in both girls and boys basketball when the Booneville High School Lady Blue Devils Girls Basketball Team won the Mississippi High School Activities Association Class 3A State Championship and the Booneville High School Blue Devils Boys Basketball Team won the Mississippi High School Activities Association Class 3A State Championship; and

WHEREAS, Head Coach Michael Smith has realized unprecedented success as the Booneville Boys and Girls basketball coach, and through his immense leadership ability and natural flair for greatness, Coach Smith has procured numerous winning records, as his professionalism and passion for the game are a testament of the true value that he not only provides to the Blue Devils but to the game of basketball overall; and

WHEREAS, the focused, resolute and detail-oriented Coach Smith inspires each of his players with his determination, ambition and intellect, and his elite status as a basketball coach was truly exhibited when the boys and girls teams won their second consecutive championship titles this year; and

WHEREAS, Coach Smith's encouragement and positive influence on each player has exponentially advanced the Booneville High School Boys and Girls Basketball Teams, and the players genuinely revel in the time and effort he dedicates to making each of them better than they were the day before, as they can absolutely feel the care for their overall well-being and the faith in their unique abilities that he possesses for each one of them; and

WHEREAS, Coach Smith has transformed each of his players into the championship caliber athletes they are today, broadened their knowledge of the game, refined their skills in execution and equipped each of them to realize their full potential and reach their goals; and

WHEREAS, it is the policy of the House of Representatives to recognize and honor the selflessness and benevolence of fine Mississippi educators, especially those such as Coach Michael Smith, an exhilarating combination of proficient basketball expertise and sincerity who radiates excellence and inspires all those who have the opportunity to learn and flourish under his tutelage to be better than the day before:

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby commend and congratulate Booneville High School Girls and Boys Basketball Head Coach Michael Smith for being the only high school coach in Mississippi history to win consecutive state championships in both girls and boys basketball, and extend best wishes for continued success in all his future endeavors.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to Head Coach Michael Smith and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
