House Resolution 186

A RESOLUTION RECOGNIZING AND COMMENDING THE NORTHEAST JONES HIGH SCHOOL "GOLD HORIZONS" SHOW CHOIR FOR ITS MANY OUTSTANDING ACHIEVEMENTS.

WHEREAS, the Northeast Jones High School "Gold Horizons" Show Choir has built a reputation as one of the most successful performing arts groups in the State of Mississippi, a truly incredible accomplishment; and

WHEREAS, for the 2022-2023 school year, Jones County Schools prioritized the continuation of a high caliber music education, and because of this, the Northeast Jones High School "Gold Horizons" Show Choir adapted to new rehearsal strategies, as students worked hard and persevered through late-night practices, continuing South Jones's tradition of excellence; and

WHEREAS, the community and band parent association has been vital to the band program's growth and sustained success by always supporting the program and its stakeholders; and

WHEREAS, "Gold Horizons" has experienced the elation through a litany of successes during the 2023 competition season alone, including: South Jones Invitational - 1st place, Middle Division; Pearl River Community College Show Choir Competition - 1st place, Middle Division; West Jones Classic Invitational - 1st place, Middle Division; Petal Invitational - 1st place, Middle Division; Oak Grove Show Choir Competition - 2nd place, Middle Division; Elite Invitational - 1st place, Middle Division; and Mississippi Show Choir Competition Champions; and

WHEREAS, remarkably, since 2017, while under the direction of Dr. William "Bill" Myers, the show choir's competitive successes began to accumulate and "Gold Horizons" has since continued to be in the top accolades, including: four out of five competition wins in 2017; four out of five competition wins in 2018, including winning the Smokey Mountain Musical Festival; five competition wins in 2019, including finishing in 2nd place for the Heart of America Competition; four out of five competition wins in 2020; four out of five competition wins in 2021; and four out of five competition wins in 2022, including winning the Mississippi Show Choir Competition; and

WHEREAS, it is the policy of the House of Representatives to recognize and commend outstanding Mississippi students, especially those such as the members of the Northeast Jones High School "Gold Horizons" Show Choir, who have brought honor to Northeast Jones High School and to the State of Mississippi:

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby recognize and commend the members of the Northeast Jones High School "Gold Horizons" Show Choir for their outstanding achievements, and extend best wishes for continued success in all their future endeavors.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to Dr. William "Bill" Myers, on behalf of the Northeast Jones High School "Gold Horizons" Show Choir and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
