A RESOLUTION COMMENDING THE DEDICATED SERVICE AND ESTEEMED CAREER OF EXCEPTIONAL EXCELLENCE OF DR. WILLIAM "BILL" MYERS AS THE FINE ARTS DIRECTOR FOR NORTHEAST JONES HIGH SCHOOL, AND CONGRATULATING HIM UPON THE OCCASION OF HIS RETIREMENT.

     WHEREAS, after more than three decades of distinguished and meritorious service in education, Dr. William "Bill" Myers, has announced his forthcoming commencement from the rigorous academy of balancing a work-life schedule, which has afforded him admission into the prestigious and sacred institution of retirement, thus leaving behind a legacy of exceptional leadership and dedication to the families of Jones County, Mississippi, Fine Arts Director for Northeast Jones High School; and

     WHEREAS, a veteran educator with a penchant for music, Dr. Myers has dedicated 19 years of his life and career leading the Northeast Jones' Fine Arts Department, and more particularly as the coordinator and director of "Gold Horizons" Show Choir has consistently perpetuated and championed the role of recognizing, perfecting and showcasing talent; and

     WHEREAS, Dr. Myers' presence in Jones County has proven to be an innocuous infusion of civic, humanitarian and philanthropic effort, the benefits of which have been extended to high school show choir participants at each high school in the Jones County School District through the generosity of the Steffan D. Myers Memorial Scholarship, established to honor the legacy and memory of his son, who was also a music afficionado and a member of the University of Southern Mississippi's men's A Capella group, "The Spirit of Southern," at the time of his untimely passing; and

     WHEREAS, throughout his esteemed career and residency, Dr. Myers' natural affinity for promoting enhanced enrichment opportunities for youth, has translated into a litany of successes for Gold Horizons for the 2023 competition season alone, not to mention previous years' accolades, including:  South Jones Invitational - 1st place, Middle Division; Pearl River Community College Show Choir Competition - 1st place, Middle Division; West Jones Classic Invitational - 1st place, Middle Division; Petal Invitational - 1st place, Middle Division; Oak Grove Show Choir Competition - 2nd place, Middle Division; and Elite Invitational - 1st place, Middle Division; and

     WHEREAS, Dr. Myers has earned the admiration and respect of his colleagues and community members throughout Jones County for his commitment, tireless devotion to promoting youth opportunities, professionalism, and compassionate spirit and soul that continue to serve his beloved Jones County communities; and

     WHEREAS, it is the policy of the House of Representatives to pay tribute to an outstanding public servant such as Dr. Myers, whose selfless service honors the spirit of hope and hospitality for Jones County and the State of Mississippi, which will be forever treasured in the many lives he has touched:

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby commend the dedicated service and esteemed career of exceptional excellence of Dr. William "Bill" Myers as the Fine Arts Director for Northeast Jones High School, congratulate him upon the occasion of his retirement, and extend best wishes to him and his family on this auspicious occasion, while conveying our hopes for much success in all his future endeavors.

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to Dr. William "Bill" Myers and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
