House Resolution 136

A RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING THE EAST UNION LADY URCHINS POWERLIFTING TEAM FOR WINNING THE MISSISSIPPI HIGH SCHOOL ACTIVITIES ASSOCIATION (MHSAA) CLASS 2A STATE CHAMPIONSHIP.

WHEREAS, the East Union Lady Urchins Powerlifting Team reigned victorious to claim the Mississippi High School Activities Association (MHSAA) Class 2A State Championship for the sixth consecutive year, a truly momentous achievement; and

WHEREAS, the 2022 girls powerlifting team was led by three great veteran leaders: Emma Boatner, Mary Herod and Jorja Roberson, and one key to this team's success was the ability of these ladies to keep the team focused and motivated over a four month season; and

WHEREAS, notable achievements during the team's outstanding season include: Emma Boatner setting four new state records, and Jorja Roberson setting a 390 pound squat record; and

WHEREAS, the success of the powerlifting program at East Union is due to the incredible support and resources made available from the parents, coaches, and especially the administration, and for eight years the program has enjoyed an outstanding level of commitment from their community, school, and especially from the athletes; and

WHEREAS, the Lady Urchins will surely carry the unforgettable memories they made along the way and the lessons of hard work, dedication and perseverance learned during this amazing season throughout their lives as they remember the feeling of greatness that accompanies being a champion; and

WHEREAS, it is the policy of the House of Representatives to recognize and commend excellence, especially that displayed by the East Union Lady Urchins Powerlifting Team, and it is with great pride that we congratulate this elite group of student-athletes, who have brought honor to East Union and to the State of Mississippi:

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby commend and congratulate the East Union Lady Urchins Powerlifting Team for winning the Mississippi High School Activities Association (MHSAA) Class 2A State Championship, and extend best wishes for continued success in all their future endeavors.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That this resolution be furnished to the East Union Lady Urchins Powerlifting Team and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
