A RESOLUTION COMMENDING THE PEARL RIVER COMMUNITY COLLEGE BASEBALL TEAM WILDCATS FOR WINNING THE NATIONAL JUNIOR COLLEGE ATHLETIC ASSOCIATION (NJCAA) DIVISION II NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP.
WHEREAS, the Pearl River Community College Baseball Team has captured the NJCAA Division II National Championship title much to the joy and excitement of the players, the school and the Pearl River community; and
WHEREAS, the Wildcats ended a tremendously wonderful season by beating Madison College 7-2 to win the NJCAA Division II World Series National Championship; and
WHEREAS, the community is especially proud of this team because this was the first national championship win for the Pearl River Community College Baseball Team; and
WHEREAS, more impressively, this team is only the second Mississippi team to win the NJCAA Division II World Series National Championship; and
WHEREAS, this impressive team spent the entire season ranked as one of the top 5 teams in the country and earned top-rank in Division II; and
WHEREAS, during the national championship game, the team experienced one loss, but avenged themselves by cruising to a 19-1 victory in Game 2 and then rallying in the middle innings of Game 3; and
WHEREAS, the team's pitcher Cole Tolbert was a star player as he allowed five hits and one walk in seven innings, and struck out 11 batters; and
WHEREAS, Pearl River Community College scored in each of the last four innings and surged past Madison College to win 7-2 in the deciding Game 3 of the NJCAA Division II World Series; and
WHEREAS, it is the policy of House of Representative to honor Mississippi student athletes who work hard at their sport and bring great honor and positive national recognition to this state:
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby commend and congratulate Pearl River Community College on winning its first NJCAA Division II World Series National Championship.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to the Pearl River Community College Baseball Team, the President of Pearl River Community College and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
