House Resolution 51

 A RESOLUTION COMMENDING MAR-CAL INCORPORATED UPON BEING AWARDED THE 2022 SOUTHCENTRAL REGION OUTSTANDING LOGGER AND THE 2022 NATIONAL OUTSTANDING LOGGER BY THE FOREST RESOURCES ASSOCIATION, AND KEN, SANDY, BRENT AND BRAD MARTIN FOR LEADING A LEGACY OF LAND STEWARDSHIP AND AGRICULTURAL ENRICHMENT.

     WHEREAS, Mar-Cal Incorporated is a family-owned forestry and logging company that has made and continues to make significant contributions to the State of Mississippi; and

     WHEREAS, Ken Martin is the President and CEO of Mar-Cal, Inc., his wife Sandy is the office manager and their sons, Brent and Brad, who both graduated from Mississippi State University, work on the logging crew; and

     WHEREAS, Ken is a third generation tree farmer and logger who grew up on his family's certified tree farm, where he learned to implement a management plant, the importance of land stewardship and attention to detail; and

     WHEREAS, after graduating from Mississippi State University with a degree from the College of Agriculture, the passions instilled in him by his parents manifested into motivation to form Mar-Cal in 1976; and

     WHEREAS, following in his family's footsteps, Ken, along with Sandy, made sure their sons, Brent and Brad, began working in land management with Mar-Cal when they were children, completing their family's legacy by earning their degrees in agricultural economics from Mississippi State; and

     WHEREAS, Ken and Sandy are also community-minded business owners, who are committed to passing on knowledge to the next generation of farmers volunteering their time, as evidenced by Ken serving 15 years as the Chairman of the Mississippi Loggers Association, serving the past two years on the Mississippi Forestry Association Executive Committee and speaking at a Forest Resources Association, just to name a few; and

     WHEREAS, this dynamic couple has spent numerous hours locally and nationally promoting the importance of the forestry industry by traveling throughout the State of Mississippi to speak with senators and representatives to promote forestry legislation and to Washington, D.C., to educate congressmen and women about the federal Safer Routes Act and a state harvest permit bill; and

     WHEREAS, it is the policy of the House of Representatives to commend Mississippi corporations that provide generational economic development to this state while training future leaders in the Mississippi agriculture industry:

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we commend Mar-Cal Incorporated for being awarded the 2022 Southcentral Region Outstanding Logger by the Forest Resources Association and the 2022 National Outstanding Logger By The Forest Resources Association, and Ken, Sandy, Brent and Brad Martin for leading a legacy of land stewardship and agricultural enrichment.

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to Ken, Sandy, Brent and Brad Martin and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
