A RESOLUTION RECOGNIZING ATTORNEY JONATHAN C. HAMILTON FOR HIS OUTSTANDING SERVICE AND CONTRIBUTIONS TO THE PRACTICE OF LAW.

     WHEREAS, Attorney Jonathan C. Hamilton, a global leader in international dispute resolution and investment, is a longstanding partner of global law firm, White & Case, and is widely recognized as an incredible strategist and great negotiator; and

     WHEREAS, Attorney Hamilton began his career with the firm in the New York City office, and was based in the Mexico City office before settling in Washington, D.C., and for more than two decades, he has built a multinational and multilingual practice that spans sectors and regions, and is a dynamic driving force with first-class expertise, outstanding technical capability, shrewd insight in formulating strategy, and a radiant leadership charisma; and

     WHEREAS, Attorney Hamilton is a leading figure in the international arbitration sphere and a longstanding partner in the #1 ranked international arbitration practice in the world, and he has advised on matters related to disputes and investments involving the Americas, Europe, the Middle East, Africa and Asia; and

     WHEREAS, as the firm's head of Latin American Arbitration, Attorney Hamilton has built a practice at the forefront of Latin American international arbitration that is consistently ranked number one for over five consecutive years, and is recognized for making significant investments in developing price competitive teams without compromising on quality; and

     WHEREAS, with a worldwide client base, Attorney Hamilton has successfully advised on billions of dollars in international disputes and deals involving landmark legal issues and complex investment planning and negotiations, and he has extensive experience with high stakes disputes involving arbitration, mediation and litigation, and deals involving crisis management and investment protections; and

     WHEREAS, with an exceptional strategic insight and tactical know how, Attorney Hamilton is unwavering in his desire to win and is outstanding in a lead role as a legal strategist who sees the dispute from all angles, and knows how counterparts behave and the issues that may arise; and

     WHEREAS, Attorney Hamilton's accolades include: Financial Times Innovative Lawyers (twice), Most Influential Arbitration Award of the Decade, Best Arbitration Award (twice), Most Surprising Arbitration Award (twice), Latin Lawyer Deal of the Year (twice), and American Lawyer Global Dispute of the Year/Americas; and

     WHEREAS, with an exceptional drive, impressive grasp of strategy, and an extraordinary background, Attorney Hamilton dominates in his field and has a single-minded commitment to his client's cause, and has a strong record of proven strategic and organizational leadership within and beyond the firm, including chairing and guiding the development and implementation of strategic planning; and  

     WHEREAS, Attorney Hamilton also has extensive experience in public affairs and unlimited skills on the political side of the fence, as he brings business acumen to the practice of law; and

     WHEREAS, additionally, Attorney Hamilton is a professor and seasoned thought leader who serves as the Distinguished Faculty Chair of the International Arbitration Institute at the University of Miami School of Law, and his publications include a book on investment protections, and numerous articles and chapters on globalization, investment, procedure, policy and public affairs, and he has spoken at major conferences worldwide and major universities such as Berkeley, Columbia, Georgetown, Harvard, Oxford, Penn, Virginia and Yale; and

     WHEREAS, Attorney Hamilton holds a Juris Doctorate from the University of Virginia School of Law, where he was editor-in-chief of the Virginia Journal of International Law; a master's degree from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where he completed a thesis project researched on the ground in Belarus and Russia at the end of the Cold War; a bachelor's degree from Brandeis University, where he completed a history project focused on civil rights; and he also studied abroad at Oxford University as an undergraduate, where he completed the Oxford Strategic Leadership Programme at the Saïd Business School, and he has additional experience as a federal law clerk, foreign associate with a major firm in Peru, research assistant to legal fiction author John Grisham, and in the fields of public policy, press, and philanthropy; and

     WHEREAS, Attorney Hamilton is a member of the District of Columbia Bar and the New York State Bar, and is admitted to practice before the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia, the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York, and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit

Education, and he speaks English, Spanish, and Russian; and

     WHEREAS, it is the policy of the House of Representatives to recognize great legal minds, especially those such as Attorney Jonathan C. Hamilton, whose legal expertise brings honor to his law firm, White & Case, and to the practice of law:

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby recognize Attorney Jonathan C. Hamilton for his outstanding service and contributions to the practice of law, and express sincere wishes for continued success in all of his future endeavors.

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to Attorney Jonathan C. Hamilton, and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
