House Resolution 17

A RESOLUTION COMMENDING THE LIFE AND LEGACY OF A FORMER ESTEEMED MEMBER OF THE MISSISSIPPI HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES AND EXPRESSING DEEPEST SYMPATHY TO HIS FAMILY UPON HIS PASSING.

     WHEREAS, on January 14, 2023, the State of Mississippi, and particularly the Mississippi House of Representatives, lost a respected leader and former colleague with the passing of Representative Billy Nicholson, who was also a beloved father, grandfather and husband who loved all he met until he passed this life at the age of 74; and

     WHEREAS, he was a devoted friend, trusting colleague and astute member of the Mississippi House of Representatives when he served in this august body from 2000 to 2012, representing District 78; and

     WHEREAS, he was also an effective businessman who owned and served as an agent of State Farm Insurance greeting everyone he knew with a smile and a spirit of improving the quality of their lives; and

     WHEREAS, a man of faith and standards, he was a dutiful public servant who was committed to enhancing the lives of all he met and desired to be a blessing to his community; and

     WHEREAS, to cherish his memory and carry on his legacy of public service and stewardship, he leaves his beloved wife of 56 years, Betty, daughters, Angie and Jennifer, five grandchildren, Madelyn, Bailey, Jes, Nic and Case, two brothers, Jerry and Clinton; and

     WHEREAS, it is most fitting and appropriate to honor and celebrate the legacy of former members, like Billy Nicholson, who continued to serve his community with pride and passion until he left this earth to transition on to his heavenly reward:

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby honor and celebrate the life and legacy of our former colleague, Billy Nicholson, and express deepest sympathy to his family upon his passing.

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to the family of former House of Representatives member, Billy Nicholson and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
