House Concurrent Resolution 57

A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION RECOGNIZING AND COMMENDING THE MULTITUDE OF CAREER SUCCESSES AND RENOWNED AWARDS BESTOWED UPON DR. DAPHINE G. HILL.

     WHEREAS, Dr. Daphine G. Hill is a remarkably talented and distinguished individual who currently holds the title and recognition of being an adjunct professor in urban and regional planning at Jackson State University and the Development Director for Boys and Girls Clubs of Central Mississippi; and

     WHEREAS, after receiving her accounting degree from Millsaps College, Dr. Hill received a master's in political science, a doctor of philosophy degree in planning from Jackson State University and a client executive certification from Harvard University; and

     WHEREAS, Dr. Hill works in historic preservation and engages her students in "real world" planning projects, and she has attended numerous conferences, including Listen Up Historic Preservation Conferences, Mississippi Heritage Trust Conferences, Urban Affairs Conferences, the National Alliance of Preservation Commissioners Conference, National American Planners Conference, National Historic Preservation Conferences, and Historic Preservation Boot Camps; and

     WHEREAS, throughout her successful career, Dr. Hill has written several remarkable pieces, including:  The Many Faces of Hazlehurst, A History of Hazlehurst, Mississippi, for which she also produced a video, her dissertation, Advocating Historic Housing Tax Credits to Individuals Who Own And Live in Pre-1960 Housing to Assist in Alleviating Housing Affordability Crisis in Jackson, Mississippi, and several other prominent and insightful publications; and

     WHEREAS, Dr. Hill holds membership in the following local, state and national organizations:  Mississippi Heritage Trust, Hazlehurst Housing Authority, City of Hazlehurst Mayor's Health Council, We Care Mississippi, Inc., Calling Panther Heritage Foundation, Hazlehurst Historic Preservation Commission, Central Mississippi Planning Division Board for the Aging, Copiah County Democratic Executive Committee, Copiah County Tourism Committee, Council of Advisors Board at Jackson State University, Board of Directors for Hazlehurst Area Chamber of Commerce, Robert Johnson Creative Arts Learning Center, Horizon Theatre, Brand New Hope, Project First and Techcorp; and

     WHEREAS, for her efforts, Dr. Hill has received numerous awards and accolades, including the Boys and Girls Clubs Regional Council CARE Award in 2022, the Mississippi Heritage Trust Award for Exterior Restoration of Millsaps Hotel in 2018, the President's Volunteer Service Award several times, the award for earning 4.0 in Urban Regional Planning Ph.D. Program at Jackson State University in 2012, selected as the student most representative of Urban and Regional Planning Department at Jackson State University in 2012, the Historic Preservation Diversity Scholar in 2011, member of Jackson State University's Mu Chapter of Alpha Epsilon Lambda National Honor Society; Who's Who Among Students in American Colleges and Universities in 2008, three Golden Circles, three administrative symposiums, two regional manager awards, five technical symposiums and seven 100% Clubs; and

     WHEREAS, it is the policy of this Legislature to recognize and salute those people whose unparalleled dedication and incomparable service to their careers truly brings about the betterment of the United States of America:

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE SENATE CONCURRING THEREIN, That we do hereby recognize and commend the multitude of career successes and renowned awards bestowed upon Dr. Daphine G. Hill and extend most sincere wishes for continued success in all her future endeavors.

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to Dr. Daphine G. Hill and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
