A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING THE SUCCESS OF THE BALDWYN CAREER ADVANCEMENT CENTER'S 2023 QUIZ BOWL TEAM DURING THE 2023 MISSISSIPPI SKILLSUSA QUIZ BOWL COMPETITION UPON WINNING FIRST PLACE.

     WHEREAS, in an amazing showcase of poise under pressure, the Baldwyn Career Advancement Center Quiz Bowl Team rose to the challenge to supersede their competitors with a heightened level of astuteness in diverse subject matters and skillsets during the 2023 Mississippi SkillsUSA Quiz Bowl, to walk away as the state's first-place winners; and

     WHEREAS, serving more than 331,000 students and instructors annually, SkillsUSA strives to fulfill its mission of empowering its members to become world-class workers, leaders and responsible American citizens by improving the quality of the country's future skilled workforce through the development of SkillsUSA Framework skills which include personal, workplace and technical skills grounded in academics; and

     WHEREAS, designed to test the knowledge of selected team members on various aspects of general academic knowledge, professional development and current events, the SKillsUSA Quiz Bowl challenges teams to demonstrate communication skills,

teamwork, problem solving and time management skills by determining and presenting the answer to each question clearly

within the allotted time frame; and

     WHEREAS, the Baldwyn Career Advancement Center Quiz Bowl Team consists of 25 student members who competed in a number of events in SkillsUSA Region One competition at Northwest Mississippi Community College in Senatobia in January, where the center's five-member quiz bowl won the region and qualified, along with seven other students, in their individual capacities, to compete in state competitions; and

     WHEREAS, the 12 Baldwyn students qualifying for Mississippi SkillsUSA competition in Jackson, which was held March 7 through 9, 2023, competed in the three areas of masonry, extemporaneous speaking and quiz bowl; and

     WHEREAS, the Baldwyn Career Advancement Center Quiz Bowl Team, consisting of seniors, Ty Hobden, Tanner Palmer and Luke Turner; junior, Grady Allen; and sophomore, Ben Eubank, excelled in demonstrating knowledge of general academic knowledge, professional development and current events, as well as demonstrating communication skills, teamwork, problem solving and time-management skills, further highlighting the team's heightened competencies in their ability to master the framework used by SkillsUSA to pinpoint the essential elements found in personal skills, workplace skills and technical skills grounded in academics; and

     WHEREAS, riding on the wave of a successful 2022 quiz bowl season, which saw the 2022 Baldwyn Career Advancement Center Quiz Bowl Team finish second in the state, the 2023 team members sought a path of redemption that could only be accomplished by claiming title to the first place trophy in this year's state competition; and

     WHEREAS, it is the policy of this Legislature to recognize and commend the exceptional feats of our youth who are the promise of the state's future leadership and prosperity, as exemplified in the astonishing academic success of the 2023 Baldwyn Career Advancement Center Quiz Bowl Team, who have bestowed great pride upon their school, families and community:

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE SENATE CONCURRING THEREIN, That we do hereby commend and congratulate the success of the Baldwyn Career Advancement Center's 2023 quiz bowl team during the 2023 Mississippi SkillsUSA Quiz Bowl Competition upon winning first place and extend best wishes for continued success in all their future endeavors.

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to Principal Danny Ramsey and CTE Counselor Mr. David Seawell, on behalf of the Baldwyn Career Advancement Center, and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
