House Concurrent Resolution 37

A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING THE BOONEVILLE LIONS CLUB ON THE OCCASION OF ITS 75TH ANNIVERSARY AND ENCOURAGING ALL CITIZENS TO RECOGNIZE THE BOONEVILLE LIONS CLUB FOR THEIR GENEROUS CIVIC AND COMMUNITY SERVICE.

     WHEREAS, Lions Clubs International is the world's largest service club organization with 1.4 million members in approximately 47,000 clubs; and

     WHEREAS, upholding the motto "We Serve", Lions are men and women who volunteer their time to meet humanitarian needs, encourage peace and promote international understanding through participation in club activities; and

     WHEREAS, chartered in 1948, the Booneville Lions Club of Booneville, Mississippi, continues to uphold the legacy and principles of the founding members, and this year marks the 75th anniversary of its chartering; and

     WHEREAS, for 75 years, the Booneville Lions Club has provided outstanding and commendable leadership and service, enriching the entirety of Northeast Mississippi, and they continue to demonstrate the principles of altruism and generosity, making the city a great place to live; and

     WHEREAS, the charter members in 1948 served as a foundation and example for all Booneville Lions who have followed to serve this community with vision screening services, eye surgeries, eye glasses, and in recent years, leadership in childhood cancer, hunger, diabetes, youth, disaster relief, humanitarian causes and environmental efforts; and

     WHEREAS, the Booneville Lions Club is a treasured service club of the community that provides free vision screening throughout Northeast Mississippi, enhancements to the local parks and financial support to food banks, scholarships, youth programs, the Mississippi Lions Eye Bank, the Mid-South Lions Sight and Hearing Foundation and the Lions Clubs International Foundation; and

     WHEREAS, it is the policy of this Legislature to recognize and commend valuable service clubs in the state, especially those such as the Booneville Lions Club, which has been responsible for many valuable contributions to improve the quality of life in the City of Boonville and throughout the State of Mississippi over the past 75 years, bringing honor and glory to the great Magnolia State:

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE SENATE CONCURRING THEREIN, That we do hereby commend and congratulate the Booneville Lions Club on the occasion of its 75th anniversary, encourage all citizens to recognize the Booneville Lions Club for their generous civic and community service and extend warm wishes for continued growth and prosperity in all of its future endeavors.

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to the Booneville Lions Club, to Lions International President Brian Sheehan, to Lions District Governor Billy Joe Webb, to Booneville Lions Club President Kathy Anderson Lamb and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
