AN ACT TO CREATE NEW SECTION 37-139-15, MISSISSIPPI CODE OF 1972, TO REQUIRE THE MISSISSIPPI SCHOOL FOR MATHEMATICS AND SCIENCE TO INCREASE THE SALARIES OF LICENSED EMPLOYEES BY AN AMOUNT, FOR THE SAME NUMBER OF YEARS OF TEACHING EXPERIENCE, CORRESPONDING TO INCREASES IN THE TEACHER SALARY SCALE ESTABLISHED FOR SCHOOL DISTRICTS; AND FOR RELATED PURPOSES.

     BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI:

     SECTION 1.  The following shall be codified as Section 37-139-15, Mississippi Code of 1972:

     37-139-15.  (1)  The board shall determine the salaries of all instructional and noninstructional employees of the Mississippi School for Mathematics and Science and may use the teacher salary scale established in Section 37-19-7 for the school's licensed employees.  

     (2)  If the board does not adhere to the teacher salary scale prescribed in Section 37-19-7, in any year that the salaries in Section 37-19-7 or the number of years of teaching experience for annual increments, or both, are increased by the Legislature, the board shall increase the salaries of the licensed employees in the school by a corresponding amount for teachers holding the same type of license or the equivalent, as determined by the board, and having the same number of years of teaching experience for the number of years that increases are provided for under the salary scale.

     SECTION 2.  This act shall take effect and be in force from and after July 1, 2023.
