AN ACT TO CREATE NEW SECTION 25-13-37, MISSISSIPPI CODE OF 1972, TO REQUIRE THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI TO APPROPRIATE FUNDS TO PAY TWO HUNDRED FIFTY DOLLARS EACH MONTH TO EACH RETIRED MEMBER OF THE MISSISSIPPI HIGHWAY PATROL AS IDENTIFIED BY THE PUBLIC EMPLOYEES' RETIREMENT SYSTEM (PERS) FOR THE PURPOSE OF OFFSETTING HEALTH INSURANCE COSTS OF THOSE MEMBERS; TO PROVIDE WHEN SUCH PAYMENT SHALL END; AND FOR RELATED PURPOSES.
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI:
SECTION 1. The following shall be codified as Section 25-13-37, Mississippi Code of 1972:
25-13-37. The State of Mississippi shall appropriate funds to pay Two Hundred Fifty Dollars ($250.00) each month to each retired member of the Mississippi Highway Patrol as identified by the Public Employees' Retirement System (PERS) for the purpose of offsetting health insurance costs of those members. This payment shall not be considered income. Such health insurance supplement shall end once the retired member of the Mississippi Highway Patrol either reaches the age of sixty-five (65) or passes away. The Mississippi Highway Patrol Retirement System Administrative Board, in consultation with the PERS Board of Trustees, shall adopt any rules and regulations that are necessary to implement the provisions of this section.
SECTION 2. This act shall take effect and be in force from and after July 1, 2023.
