A RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING THE HANCOCK HIGH SCHOOL "LADY HAWKS" GIRLS BOWLING TEAM AND COACH TREVIN BURGE FOR WINNING THREE CONSECUTIVE STATE CHAMPIONSHIPS.
WHEREAS, the Hancock High School "Lady Hawks" Girls Bowling program was established in 2015 and by 2018 was already a State Championship contender. The team finished as State Runner-Up in 2018 and 2019 and then won three Mississippi High School Activities Association (MHSAA) State Championships in a row in 2020, 2021 and 2022, giving them top two finishes in a row; and
WHEREAS, the 2021 Girls Bowling Team was arguably the greatest high school girls bowling team in the history of the State of Mississippi. They competed in 12 tournaments and finished with a 12-0 record in the tournaments and a 68-0 record against all teams in those tournaments; and
WHEREAS, the 2021 Lady Hawks also set the three-game pin-fall state record with a 2711 series; and
WHEREAS, in addition, the Lady Hawks made up four of the five players selected to the MHSAA All-State Team for the 2021 season. The 2021 team also finished the season as the 12th ranked team in the country; and
WHEREAS, from 2018 to 2022, the team had nine girls named to an All-State Team: MacKenzie Conway, Jeannie Young, Alissa McGill, Julia Smith, Mikayla Smith, Jena Stallings, Ellen Seeger, MacKenzie Cumberland and Alex Ritchie. MacKenzie Conway, Jeannie Young and Alissa McGill were members of all three State Championship Teams. Hancock High School Coach Trevin Burge was named the Mississippi Coach of the Year in 2021; and
WHEREAS, it is with great pride that we recognize this group of student athletes who have brought honor to their school, their community and to the State of Mississippi:
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES CONCURRING THEREIN, That we do hereby commend and congratulate the Hancock High School "Lady Hawks" Girls Bowling Team and Coach Trevin Burge for winning three consecutive State Championships, and extend to the team, coaches, parents and sponsors our best wishes for continued bowling success.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That this resolution be presented to Coach Trevin Burge and Hancock High School Principal Tara Ladner, forwarded to the Hancock County Board of Education and made available to the Capitol Press Corps.
