A RESOLUTION MOURNING THE PASSING AND COMMENDING THE CIVIC CONTRIBUTIONS OF RANDY TATE, EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR OF THE BOYS & GIRLS CLUB OF PIKE COUNTY, MISSISSIPPI, AND EXTENDING THE CONDOLENCES OF THE MISSISSIPPI SENATE.

     WHEREAS, we join the citizens of Pike County and the friends of the Boys & Girls Club of America in mourning the passing of Randy Tate; and

     WHEREAS, Randy Tate was born and raised to the late Fred Tate Sr., and Betty Jean Tate.  He was a resident of Pike County, Mississippi, until he departed from this life on November 29, 2021; and

     WHEREAS, he was a devout member of Shady Grove Missionary Baptist Church in Pike County, Mississippi.  He was raised in the church and confessed his love for Christ at an early age.  Randy served faithfully in the church and was an active board member; and

     WHEREAS, Randy graduated from South Pike High School in 1976.  Upon graduation, he went on to serve his country, enlisting with the United States Army, where he served four years.  He then furthered his education at Jackson State University.  In 1984, Randy obtained a Bachelor of Science Degree in Criminal Studies; and

     WHEREAS, Randy Tate was employed with the Boys & Girls Club of America.  He served as the first and only Director and Chief Executive Officer of the Boys & Girls Club of Southwest Mississippi.  He had such a deep love for the Boys & Girls Club.  Randy remained dedicated, committed and loyal to his position for over 30 years until God called him home.  He was known and honored on the national, state and local level for the work he did for the Boys & Girls Club of Southwest Mississippi.  Randy was truly a giant in the community; and

     WHEREAS, Randy had a heart for people and a deep unwavering love for his family, which is what Fred Sr., and Betty Jean instilled in their children.  He was full of life and positive energy; and

     WHEREAS, Randy was preceded in death by his parents, Fred Tate, Sr., and Betty Jean Tate; son, Kendrick Cockerham; and sister, Diane Tate.  He leaves to cherish his loving memories:  his wife, Yvonne Bates Tate; four children:  Rashawn (Denise) Tate, Randy Richard, Shameka Reed and RaShanda (Booker Jr.) Littles; five siblings:  Fred Jr. (Tonya) Tate, Paul Tate, Jimmie Tate, Beverly (Kelvin) Patrick and Jermaine (Monica) Tate; ten grandchildren, a host of nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, relatives, church family, colleagues and friends who loved him dearly.  He will be missed by all:

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby mourn the passing and commend the civic contributions of Randy Tate, Executive Director of the Boys & Girls Club of Pike County, Mississippi, and extend the condolences of the Mississippi Senate.

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That this resolution be presented to the surviving family of Randy Tate, forwarded to the Boys & Girls Club of Southwest Mississippi and made available to the Capitol Press Corps.
