House Resolution 121

A RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING THE COPIAH ACADEMY HIGH SCHOOL COLONELS BOYS SOCCER TEAM AND HEAD COACH, DR. BRAD CARR, FOR WINNING THE 2021-2022 STATE CHAMPIONSHIP.

WHEREAS, the Copiah Academy High School Colonels Boys Soccer Team finished the 2021-2022 season with the state title, after earning first place in South District 2, defeating Central Hinds Academy 6-0 in the quarterfinals, outlasting St. Joseph Catholic School 2-1 in the semifinals and prevailing over Starkville Academy in the title match; and

WHEREAS, the Colonels outlasted, outplayed and ultimately proved too much for the Starkville Academy High School Boys Soccer Team with a 1-1 (5-4) score that ended in a penalty shootout to secure the championship trophy, solidifying the Colonels' rightful place in the registries of sports and school history; and

WHEREAS, the 2021-2022 Colonels team statistics were impressive, but the key to this team's consistent success has been the constant team atmosphere and year-round hard work; and

WHEREAS, the 2021-2022 Copiah Academy High School Colonels Championship roster is comprised of the following athletes: Alex Allen, Justice Boone, Ethan Britt, Paxton Cora, Chris Ellis, Hayden Foster, Joseph Granger, Rhyser Guynes, Jacob Hust, Brayden Johnson, Miller Lathem, William Lin, Caden McCullough, Brian McNair, Andrew Reinike, Aidan Rogers, Carson Romano, Aidan Smith, Jackson Stringer, Brennan Thomas and Wes Thornton; and

WHEREAS, the Colonels have been superbly coached and inspired by Head Coach, Dr. Brad Carr, and Assistant Coach Richard Carr who have broadened the Colonels' knowledge of the game and refined their skills in execution; and

WHEREAS, Coach Carr continues to build upon the legacy of superior play and true sportsmanship forged by the tenacious and undaunted spirit of each team member, as evidenced in their ability to produce high caliber players and plays and the team's successful season; and

WHEREAS, it is the policy of the House of Representatives to recognize and commend the superb accomplishments of Mississippi student-athletes, especially those such as the Copiah Academy High School Colonels Boys Soccer Team, whose excellence on the field and in the classroom bring honor to their school, their community and the State of Mississippi:

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby commend and congratulate the Copiah Academy High School Colonels Boys Soccer Team, Head Coach Dr. Brad Carr, and Assistant Coach Richard Carr for winning the 2021-2022 State Championship, and extend best wishes for continued success in all their future endeavors.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to Head Coach Dr. Brad Carr, and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
