House Resolution 112

A RESOLUTION COMMENDING HAZLEHURST FUNERAL HOME FOR PROVIDING MANY YEARS OF OUTSTANDING SERVICES TO THE HAZLEHURST COMMUNITY AND CARING FOR FAMILIES DURING THEIR DARKEST TIMES OF BEREAVEMENT.

WHEREAS, Hazlehurst Funeral Home is a pillar of the Hazlehurst community that provides excellent service and care to families during their darkest moments of bereavement; and

WHEREAS, the funeral home's story began in 1946, when L.D. Webb, Phillip Murray and William Louie established the Hazlehurst Burial Association, which they ran together for over 20 years; and

WHEREAS, in 1969, L.D. Webb passed away and left his wife Floy Webb with his ownership interest; and

WHEREAS, Floy Webb used her business savvy to buy out the other partners and assume full, sole ownership, that she maintained until her demise in January 1997; and

WHEREAS, due to Floy Webb's keen estate planning, she left the business to her granddaughter, Marion L. Cotton, whom she trained to carry on the family's legacy; and

WHEREAS, the funeral home has continued to flourish under Marion's leadership and offers funeral pre-planning, traditional funerals, memorial services, graveside services, and cremation services; and

WHEREAS, in continuance of her family's legacy, the staff works diligently to accommodate the needs of grieving families in a manner that brings honor to the deceased as well as their loved ones; and

WHEREAS, it is the policy of the House of Representatives to commend business owners within this state who work hard to provide much needed services to families within this state during their darkest hours and boost economic development while doing so:

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, we do hereby commend Hazlehurst Funeral Home for providing many years of outstanding services to the Hazlehurst community and caring for families during their darkest times of bereavement.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to Hazlehurst Funeral Home and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
